That's my rant finished. And if anyone here actually truly likes Harry Potter and are feeling withdrawl symptoms from it, then I highly recommend The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud. This is because it is highly engaing, wonderfully written, carries a heavy plot with political intent parallel to sublime comedic touch and the layout of the book is very rare and simple but works a treat.

Let us settle this argument once and for all:
- JK Rowling can form an engaging plot
- The genre has a wide audience
- JK Rowling doesn't write in good/correct/anywhere near sensible English
- Being a billionaire, I would've thought she could afford good proof-readers (if her publisher couldn't anyway)
- There are many superior series of books in the same genre - see The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud
- Many people read it just because everyone else is - it's a tidal wave/domino effect
- People fool themselves into thinking they like it just because 'other' people say it's great and they don't want to be left out (the 'other people' may also indeed be fooling themselves)
- One of the greatest pieces of PR/hype in the last decade - and indeed, for the entire last decade (continuing with films)
That's my rant finished. And if anyone here actually truly likes Harry Potter and are feeling withdrawl symptoms from it, then I highly recommend The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud. Engaging plots and reasonable (not the best, not the worst) characters, solid entertainment factor for a few hours are why I read each book as it comes.
That and I grew up reading them. Literally, my father managed to get his hands on each book for me as I hit the age that Harry would be in the book. Kinda weird but yeah...

I happen to like the harry Potter books. also, if they were shit, how come they are described as modern-day classics? I wonlt spoi the ;ast book for anybody, but it really does show how skilfully she can write books.

Originally I was not going to watch the movies because I thought they would be a bit childish and not the sort of thing i like, but one weekend a while ago, my girlfriend had all the videos lying out and I was really bored. So watched one, then the next, then the next and really enjoyed them.
