Ummm...that's part of what our highway system is meant for, emergency landings. I can't say for sure, but I think many bridges and overpasses are reinforced so planes can make emergency landings.
Yeh, didnt some American president declare that for every X mile of your highway system, 1 mile has to be straight, to use to land planes in emergencys (ie war)

The federal government justified funding the highway system by deming it necessary for transportation of troops and supplies and the emergency landing thing was part of it I believe.
