In the world we live in today there is millions of people starving, wars going on, rapists, murderers, paedophiles, un imaginable poverty...the list could go on

and yet we go on, we live in a un balanced world where the few hold the money while alot of the world starves. An alien visiting our world tomorrow would see a place where we let the most heinous crimes get away each day with barely a flicker of thought.

So i put this question to you, could we create a Utopian society, a place where we are all equal. I'm not talking about communism I'm talking about a place where no evil exists no wars, no hate, no racism a place where everyone feels safe a place where no one is hungry.

Is this just a dream? Could we ever achieve such a thing? And if we did how would you make this place right, how would you govern it.

Is capital punishment right for your judicial system? Would a teenage girl be able to have an abortion? What laws would you have to control guns?

Or is this just a dream, could this ever happen on our planet, or will we just push the human race to the edge of extinction?

Usmarine said it best.

Honestly though, I think the only way this would ever be remotely possible with our style of humanity, would be through a very brutal, totalitarian government that just dealt with every problem as harshly and swiftly as possible [Read "The Giver"].  That kind of defeats the whole utopian thing though...

Its never going to happen. Ever. Not on this planet. Not with the waring that has been seen through the centuries. Sorry to burst any thread of hope you may have had. I guess you can consider some small islands with few people as a Utopia. But they can easily be destroyed by the evil of this world.

If it's too good to be true, it's too good to be true.

Nuff said.

Life gets too perfect, too good, and then all of a sudden its no longer satisfies you,  greed kicks in and you want more, so you steal from your next door neighboor.  He finds out, a fight breaks out.  Rinse and repeat.

The posts in this thread are why it will never happen - it won't happen because "It'll never happen" or "It won't work" or "drugs are bad"...

It could happen. It could work. Drugs are OK, in moderation.

But until people wake up and smell the coffee, it never will.

There are 7 billion people in this world, and not nearly enough resources to sustain them all comfortably.
We have overpopulated ourselves, and violence, poverty, and death is nature's way of evening out...

Goverment, Religeon and Money.

It won't happen.

Some people or a lot of people would rather push a 90 year old ladie on the ground and take her cash then help her across the street.

People rather blow them selves up for their religeon then live life to the fullest ( Now this I could understand dieing for what you believe in ).

And the Goverment would rather spend money on a war instead of spending it on Global Warming research to help better the world and help the poor, sick, dieing people. ( They would rather have a war than help their own country).

The only way it would happen is a miracle.

My 2 cents.

None of which describe a utopian society. They all describe distopias.

What the Brazilian Gang film? What's that got to do with it?

Not actually read/seen any of these, but the first two aren't meant to be 'utopian' as such, I believe. The third I've never even heard of.
