I have narrowed it down to three choices all of which are about the same price.

Please tell me which you would choose.
Keep in mind my main focus is gaming, BF2 and BF2142 in particular.
I want to run the game fluidly on the highest settings with no bottle necking.

Thank you for any replies.

First one has the nicest processor, last one has the nicest video card. I'm pretty sure most people will tell you that the lower end 8series are shite. Soooo... Probably the last one. Plus, the first one only comes with 1G of RAM(although you can upgrade quite easily).

Anyway, if you can, get the first one and upgrade to a 8800(8500 is baaaaad.*sheep*) + 2G RAM(2G is pretty much the standard today). Then you're set.

Not saying the AMD CPU is bad, but in comparison to the Intel CPUs today...

Combine the CPU of the first one with the GPU of the third. And add 2GB of RAM. You are then sorted.

I wouldn't get anything lower than 8800GTS 320mb and I wouldn't get an AMD CPU!

I would go with 3 though!

if your comfortable with a great cpu now and low end graphics get the first.  if you want a descent cpu and great graphics now get the last.  but either way, that card is overkill for any game right now.  find a $200 gpu now and put the extra $100 towards an intel C2D processor and mobo.  you buy that cpu and mobo then your gonna have to upgrade soon.  and if you go the amd route, get an opteron like a 170.  then oc the piss out of it.

that psu on the first build is waaaaaay overkill aswell.  i use  on board audio so i wouldn't buy a sound card.  there is some more savings there.  you could also save $100 and buy a 6600 intel dual core instead of the quad.  with saving right there you could almost buy an 8800gts.

if its for gaming you are really after an 8800, 86s just dont really suffice   But, I wouldnt go for choice three because, well, its a bit of a low end CPU, paired to such a high end GPU

Can't you find one with a E6600 and an 8800GTS in that price range?  I'm sure you will be able to

The CPU's on the second two blow. The first one's vid card should be updated, especially if it's for gaming.

When I go the intel route with the 8800gts 640,  I end up with a $1200 price tag.

Should I get system 2 instead, since it has a better mobo and then just buy a better GPU later?

If I choose system 3, what wont I be able to do? a dual amd 3800 should keep me well off for a while coupled with the 8800gts 640 and the 2 gigs of ram or no?

thank again for all your replies.

The CPU will bring your system down severely. 3800+'s are...very outdated. Get the first system, and update the video card and RAM.

How about the 320mb 8800GTS?  isnt there somewhere else you can buy?  I wouldnt go near the 3800 now, too old, like has been said, it will bring the performance down.  Where are you looking anyway, let us go have a look maybe

Dude get the "Gamer EX" model.  its your price range.  then look at the specs and see if you can save or upgrade here and there.  granted it has a 8600gts, but hey, that is plenty of card for any game right now.  save later and then buy an 8800 series.  like i said before, screw the sound card.  i'd upgrade your hdd to the 320gb one too.

so if your going to stick with ibuypower.com and aren't willing to build your own (its easy and fun) then this looks like your best option.

and you definately need AT LEAST 1gb of ram.  it is cheap and won't take you long to buy another gb off newegg or the likes.  Personally i've been running 2gb for over a year.  no way in hell i'd  run less than that now!  you will need the ram when the big games come out.

I have thought about building it myself but I dont know how to configure the bios.

What kind of system could I build with a grand if I bought all my gear from newegg?

420W powersupply? erm no.  go for a decent power supply.  512 x 2 ? no  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6820220144  go for that.  And wait for your next paycheck... you'll save money

K don't nevermind, I just read the rest of that post, don't buy that system.  You can buy a better system of newegg for a grand.. and you don't have to configure the bios?

Proto, I suggest you wait another month or so until you have about $1500 to spend.  You can get an mid-high range computer now, but you're just going to have to upgrade it in the future.  Save yourself some/money and wait until you can get it all at once.

if you are into gaming like with BF2,  1 gb of RAM memory is a minimum, but 2 gb RAM is indeed recommended.

RAM and PSU. I wouldn't trust the PSU that comes with a case, and you'll want at least 2G of RAM.
