I was just wondering since the ban on Assault Rifles can we still import the L85a2's or not?

- Can us Americans Import British Assault Rfiles or not?
Hmm...I don't believe so. If I'm not mistaken, imports of automatic firearms have been banned since 1986.
if there is enough of a following they might make a semi auto variant like the ak47
i doubt that. unless as dill13 said if they make a semi auto variant of it. OR you can get one....illegally....if you got all the right connections...............LOl heck if you did had connections like that; before you know it you would be called the "lord of war"
Does'nt one of the members of this forum have a full auto ak?dill13 wrote:

If you have a class 3 license (something like that) you can get a fully automatic firearm.
And I think I'm wrong about the 1986 thing, as I recall someone here from the US firing a full-auto P90.

ive shot a P90.....but there are specific bans on certain weapons i believe...im not a class III license holder (unfortunately) so i dont know.....though, west pheonix or pulsar might know.
You can have Automatics if you have the Class C Permit.

I'm off to an airshow this weekend and they're bound to have some L85A2's and with AG36 launchers, perhaps I can ahem, acquire one .
Bring me back one!M.O.A.B wrote:

Problem is though they're usually chained to the table, so I'll have to try and sneak a pair of bolt cutters up the exhibit.
Ok. I got this all cleared up from teh local class three dealership here in Colorado. Anyone can buy a class III item, THE DEALER has to have the permit, the buy just pays a transfer fee (around 250$) and a special tax stamp, you then have to pay for the weapon, class III items are VERY expensive, and then the local sherriff and the ATF have to sign off on it. The store i shop at sells alot of class III weapons. P90's, MP5's, silencers, etc... I havnet seen any brittish assualt rifles though, but im sure you can get them, just talk to your local class three dealer.

ummm, it is called the MAK-90, and is imported by Centry International Arms.dill13 wrote:

Also, the semi-auto versions of the FN-2000 and the P-90 are both for sale at your local gun store. Steyer AUG? No sweat. FAL in semi auto? Easy.
I think it is more a matter of a lack of popularity in the US for the SA80, or that the brits may not like exporting their rifle.
Most semi auto weapons aren't affected by that ban, and I know I've seen a couple L85's (or whatever their civilian designation is) in my local gun store. In fact the only civilian AR I know of that is affected by the ban is the Israeli Galil (sp?).
