In the last 15 years or so, the terms: republican and democrat, have become extremely dirty words. Also, their media appointed titles: conservative and liberal, respectively, are equally dirty words. Why don't we all quit pretending to be better than our own damn people and say it as it is. Truth be told, most people are moderates. Some issues we are liberal, some issues we are conservative. This internal red vs blue fight has done nothing good for the American people, or the world. Being human, we must have a label for a mindset. So I say remove the party labeling BS, and replace them with another *not yet dirtied by the media* nomenclature: Conservative (republican) or Progressive (dem/libby.)

I find it foolish of us to apply this party specific titling to our own people. I know an enormous number of people who voted republican in the local ballot due to the title alone, and got raped economically by the same individual's policy.

Thoughts? Is this simply calling the current folks by a different name, or would this be a step to end the red vs blue crap? Other opinions?

The new words will end up being just as pejorative as the original words. It's the concepts not the names and titles that need to be considered more carefully by people.

I don't think a change of labels is going to change our tendency to bicker.  I mean, I do like the term progressive more than liberal, but some would say that progressive could be defined in conservative terms as well.

Figuratively speaking, progressive means a change for the better.  So, you can argue that some conservative changes are "progressive."

For example, I would argue that getting rid of affirmative action is a progressive move for hiring practices in America.  That's a conservative change, but I think it would progress us beyond the "reverse" racism that is present right now.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Nazis call themselves Progressives?

If Liberals are Progressives then what are Conservatives?

Renaming the parties will do no good if everyone has been alienated by their broken promises. We need at least a third major party or to do away with that system altogether and have one bunch of candidates not attached to party lines. The Progressives name just is so nostalgic, too. It makes me think of the original party with Teddy Roosevelt and ye olde daiyes.
