- Why should we remove phrases like 'War on Terror' 'Jihad' 'Extremist'?
Why do you make so many open ended topics? It makes my brain hurt.
"War on Terror" is nothing more than a political term. I think Jihad seems to imply that theres a single, unified army of Arab terrorists bent on destroying the world (which may be true to a certain extent, but they are not a single unified force and not all of them are Arab).
Muslim extremist, as I see it, is the way most people want muslim extremists referred by. What else can you call them? Not all of them may be terrorists, not all of them may be al-Qaeda. Extremist is just about one of the only terms out there that doesn't over-generalize.

"War on Terror", well its not technically a war so why call it one?
"Jihad" means struggle or battle, and for a real Jihad to occur a Imam must request it and the cause (which really could be anything) must be taken up by all Muslims. By saying the terrorists are on a Jihad it stereotypes that all Muslims are terrorists.
"Extremist Muslim", because the terrorists are attacking us over political and economic reasons and not religious ones. This word makes it seem like Islam is the problem, and the reason they attack us is mostly a religious one, when it clearly is not.

They are buzz words used for political purposes in sounds bites.
We shouldnt. They have a purpose.
noice

I'd like to add another word to that ban list: Terrorist
Just as misrepresented, just as misunderstood, and completely overused like "racist" "extremist" and "war on terror." My main reasoning for this is simple. If I'm an ordinary iraqi citizen father of 3 and husband, and some asshead occupiers come in and shoot up my house, (luckily my family is sleeping on the roof cuz it's 110º in the house and only 100º outside at night because we have no electricity/AC), but then hear us panicking up on the roof and they fire away through the roof with their m249s and put holes through my children...and my wife runs away and they kidnap her because someone bombed their truck a block away and I'm left without a family..and I take up arms vowing to kill as many of these invaders as possible -- I'M THE TERRORIST? And for that matter, I wouldn't call ANY of the muslim men and women fighting American's in Iraq are terrorists any more than we are. We're in THEIR HOME, their backyard, with NO JUST CAUSE whatsoever.
But I know, I know...there's evil doers who blow up children and blow up schools cuz they're just CRAAAAAZY for Allah..and they just aimlessly go around doing random acts of terror! And of course our news outlets (on in particular) would have us all believe that that's what our boys are fighting...blah blah blah.
I guarantee anyone reading this that NON-Americans think we're terrorists more than we Americans think those islamofascists and "insurgents" are terrorists.

The war on terror is as effective as the war on drugs.
might as well start calling it all WWIII.
I'd say less. The War on Terror has spread terrorist and extremist attitudes. The War on Drugs didn't spread drug abuse as far as I know.Pubic wrote:

Oh and when did Ironchef start posting again?
Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.
The CIA supported and funded Contras, ran cocaine into the US with impunity, often supervised and protected by the CIA, much to the DEA's disgust. The funding was touted as being for 'The War on Drugs' & 'The War on Communism' but infact it was used for the opposite.Flecco wrote:

The contra leaders were known drug producers and traffickers. Their coke flooding poor black areas with crack was less of a evil than a leftist government in Nicaragua to Regan. This exposed the war on drugs for what it really was..........and excuse to interfere in other countries business.
