How important are Stats/Awards/Unlocks to you?

Just wondering how important these factors are to you, how do they affect your gameplay?

I'll admit now I do look forward to the next rank upgrade/unlock, but when it comes to things like the knife or pistol badge, well that kinda stuff is more likely to happen by chance. I don't see myself getting very far running around killing tons of people just using the knife. I think what I do is I play BF2/2142 however I like and if I happen to get awards whilst doing so then bonus.

What's the general consensus here? Do most people specifically try and achieve every single award etc, or do they adopt some other technique?

(Also a question that may seem a little naive, but what happens in say 10 years time (extreme example) when EA decide to stop using BF2 global stats? Will that mean BF2 will no longer be available for play on the internet?)

Well stats, awards and unlocks are not important but they are fun!

It's a challenge to try go get a badge or a ribbon or a new rank but it's doesn't really matter.
Stats are fun and a way to see if you are improving but too many people think it's a way of comparing players...

Unlocks are fun and give the game variation. Unfortunately alot of people stop using standard weapons when they get unlocks and don't really learn to use for example the M16.

Just see what happen during "EA's little stat problem".... stats are important to people and that is a big part of the game!

Well I will not always stop when having a bad KDR on a server. So in that way stats are not that important as long as I have fun. However, I try to play all aspects of this game though, infantry, all kits, all vehicles and also squadleading and commanding. . Therefor I usually have the time requirements for a lot of badges. When I notice I can get one (vanilla) I go for it. Never really bothered with the SF badges, don't play SF that much. So now I have all possible badges/medals of vanilla I can have, the other badges/medals are spending more time in the 4 vehicle types.

They do affect my pubbing game play a bit. Overall i don't care about stats but i watch that i have good accuracy and K/D ratio.

It's funny with me because when I'm not playing, the stats & badges drive me to spin up the BF2 disc. But when I get into the game, none of that matters ... only winning does.

They're a critical selling point and feature of the game therefore they are important. If I didn't care about those things i'd play '42 or BFV.

it will be playable... just no stats.

also, i had a space in my heart until I had stats. I just felt so lonely. If i ever lost my stats i would have to end my life.

Sure i play to get the badges and ribbons. medals will come in time

I'm proud to have gotten Expert Knife, that took me long time to get ! even vet pistol was hard. So yah i care about my stats.

is there any news on SF stats, my grabliing hook and other + time have not been updated in a long time now, but my bf2 stats are fine.

That's not true, it's just a ratio of 1:4

You can get it with 5 kills & 20 deaths; 6 kills & 24 deaths; 7 kills and 28 deaths etc.
It's just that 5 kills & 20 deaths is the lowest level you can get it. So having 1 kill and 4 deaths won't give you a Purple Heart.

About a year or so ago, stats meant a lot more to me.

Now I've played to the stage where I can get my ass kicked several rounds in a row, and it won't have any effect on my stats, so I don't really care.

Also, I've recently converted to Project Reality (and honestly don't see myself going back to vanilla, it seems so archaic and disorganised by comparison - nobody does anything to help anyone out, nobody follows orders, everything is stats stats stats) so stats are no longer an issue for me.

I have no qualms about crouching on a hill overlooking a flag, while my squad goes down to cap it. I'm helping my team by using my binoculars to spot enemies from the vantage I have (after setting up a rally point, of course - just in case), and also I'll enable them to spawn again if they die. It's infinitely more satisfying than succumbing to the lure of getting 1 more point in BF2. So I won't get any points for it, who cares? I've helped secure a flag, and tried my best to support my squad.

Woops, long ramble again.

Basically, no, stats aren't an issue for me anymore, I've grown out of it.

And to answer your other question, once EA decide to cut all support for BF2, none of us will be able to log in to the game, so someone will have to make a patch to get around this. The fact that stats will no longer be available should just mean that more people will finally explore the mods that are out there. Many of which are considerably better than Vanilla, but people are too obssessed with their stats to try them out.
