So CPUZ shows my cpu @ 6x multiplier and 1600mhz. My settings in my bios are at 2400mhz and 9x... however when i game i can alt tab real quick and cpu z shows the correct speed. Is this normal? Does my cpu idle down when not in use to save power? Or is my shit fucked again? See sig for full specs.
Wasn't it something with the Core 2 Duo, that the speed set in the BIOS is only used when actually necessary. Thus when ilding in windows the CPU will work at slower speed since you do not need the rest anywayz.
Thats what I'm thinking as well. Just paranoid I guess, I have been having all sorts of tech issue lately w/ psu's dieing and my RAID disappearing... so I was like shit, ANOTHER issue. Personally I think it's normal, just want reassurance.
I guess that's how they save so much power.
CPU-Z's tellin me i'm running at 2394.5 9x multiplier

As long as it's 2.4 GHz, right?
Maybe something in my BIOS? anyone else got any idea's?
Doubt it, it's probably why Intel's C2D are energy efficient, especially when idling... It's like slowing it down, using less power when not needed...<SS>SonderKommando wrote:

It's intel speedstep kicking in you can disable it in you bios. Something like this but maybe someone with that MB can give more detailed instruction
In the Advanced Bios Features Menu, Disable all of the following: CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E), CPU Thermal Monitor 2(TM2), CPU EIST Function (EIST is the speedstep one)

Yep, it is Intel's equivalent of AMD's "Cool 'n' Quiet" solution. Your processor only uses the power it needs, but in game it will jump right back to its stock full speed. It means there is less strain on the CPU.
your motherboard is downclocking your cpu when it is idle, you can turn it off in the BIOS somewhere, but that is why it shows the wrong speed when it is idle, but in a game it shoots up to regular speed, it is supposed to save energy and heat.<SS>SonderKommando wrote:

Thanks alot guys!!!! KARMA FOR ALLL!!!!!!!!!!!!
The C2D was developed as a laptop processor, that's why it acts this way.
