Recently it was announced that the Australian Federal Police are devoting 1/3 of their $1.1 billion budget to the development of an 'International Deployment Group'.
That is to say, AFP officers given APCs, Steyrs and military training so they can 'help' out on peacekeeping ops. The basic idea is sound, but I would prefer if the Australian Army had a battalion or maybe a regiment devoted to police tasks on peacekeeping ops, rather than arming a police force that can legally be deployed here where I live...
