After months of heated debate, the Army will conduct a side-by-side test shoot next month with its standard-issued carbine to see how well it can withstand extreme dust and sand environments.

Maybe now you guys can use something that works.

It will have a chance, but it won't win. I'd place my money on the SCAR or the M4, for beauracratic reasons. Who knows though, the army may do something right and pick the HK416

I still like the idea of the OICW, an assault rifle with a magazine fed DU launcher on top, hell there was one on that bond movie and it looked awesome although bulky. But I do quite like the XM8.

I think I heard the OICW weights something like 20 pounds, XM8 is a good weapon, well, weapon system, but it was considered not enough of a improvement.

M16A2, but it's packed up on top of the Tank. Only the Infantry guys get the A4.

BTW Im both a Hk416/417 fan and a Mk16/17 fan, M8 system is good, but I dont think "good" cuts it.

The Top Rail is removeable on the M16A4, with RIS mounts underneath it. Basically lets you put a scope or other attachments there instead of the Ironsights. Also most have some sort of RIS system in place of the foregrip, allowing further additions.

Did anyone read the comment in one of the links that the US should just make some modifications to the AK-47 and use that? I bet that would thrill the Russians .
