Quite simply, everyone and their mother loves to hate it. Big deal, I've never cared for the XBox or their listing of games, and I could give a rats ass about what selection they have for the 360.
I love it. I've put hundreds of hours on it and I've had no problems at all. If you've got a nice surround sound set up (one with an HDMI switcher built in, not just a pass through), and use HDMI as your interface, you can use the uncompressed PCM audio format (better than DD or DTS for surround) and get high quality audio out of the PS3. HD blah blah, both systems have that, so I'll not waste my time talking about that.
The cheap downloadable games can be pretty fun, and there are downloadable demos, which is pretty nice considering you don't have to pay for service at all. GT HD is awesome. People bitch and moan and whine about the selection of games. Big fucking deal. There are quite a few titles coming out throughout the year and I haven't personally had a problem with the selection at all.
One of the coolest things that the new firmware version supports is upscaling and smoothing of PS and PS2 titles. This is awesome, and works pretty well. It removes a lot of the jaggies you'd see if you were to play these games on your HDTV using the regular resolution of the games. The PS3 doesn't support old PS discs, but you can download them for less than $10, usually around $6 or $7. Also, I love Insomniac, Square, and SCEA as game devs, and that's also part of the reason why I got it.
Also, Sony has been doing a good job of constantly updating and supporting the PS3 through these firmware updates. They have added a ton of functionality to the PS3 over the last 8 months (I got mine right when they came out). One thing I plan on doing is replacing the 20 gig HDD with a 80-100 gig HDD instead. This is no secret as the manual specifically tells you how to replace it, and it will not void your warranty.
Overall, I'm very pleased with this console and impressed with how Sony has supported it (far from what we're used to with EA).
QFT.
My friends have each sent their Xbox back once, the max time is a dude who sent it back 5... From my view, it's WAY to buggy/problematic. That and the fact, all the games
I (Not you guys, me.) prefer that are available on the 360 come to PC anyways...
Oh did anyone say MGS4 yet?

Edit
Looks like 360's got a price drop... in a way.
The HARDDRIVE got dropped. $20...
Yay?
