Depends. Is it a war-war or a screw-around-war? Iran could be taken out conventionally with little difficulty, the end result being guerilla warfare over what rubble was left.

Iran is mostly Shiite, a majority of Iraq is Shiite. There are large Shiite populations in Syria and Lebanon. The rest of the Middle East is predominantly Sunni. The Sunnis and the Shiites have a large rivalry, as their difference is primarily who gets to lead the religion. An equivalent is probably the Catholic Protestant split after Luther. But it has been going on for about 1500 years!!!!
The Iranians are trying to support the Shiite majority in Iraq, which was previously ruled over by the Sunni elite. Hezbollah in Lebanon is also Shiite.
The rest of the Middle East is very nervous of Iran with nukes, or an agressive Iran. If the US weren't there, they'd go back to that rivalry (plus fighting with Israel, whcih they figure would get rolled without US support). Within Islam the Arab v persian and Sunni v Shiite divides come into play quickly is there is no Islam v US/West/Christianity going on.
But if the US were to go into iran, they (the people, not the rulers who'd probably like to see Iran get brought down a peg) would all feel more Muslim than Arab or Sunni, and close ranks.
You would have a massive insurgency after conquering Iran. And there would be widespread terrorist attacks in the West is sympathy. The general population is sick of the mullahs, but a US invasion would unit them behind their government. Why would they be any more likely than the Iraqis to suddenly become US lovers?

I hardly consider propaganda a full display. They have some dusty old F-14s, sure...do you know how hard those things are to maintain? The reason they're so expensive is because the radar and missiles systems were the main attack system of the aircraft--if the US Navy stopped maintaining them because of their expense and unwillingness to do that kind of skilled repair and check work, how do you think Iran will fair?specops10-4 wrote:

Basically, the US could take over/destroy any country on earth in a matter of weeks. We've never come close to displaying our full and complete military power (Post WWII), and I don't think we ever will (I hope the need never arises that is). But I doubt we'll ever go to war with Iran because I think Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is smart enough to avoid any kind of situation that would result in a major conflict between our countries. He may hate America and a lot of other peoples, but he's not stupid by any means.
