U.S. widens push to use armed Iraqi residents

This is a strange idea, it seems very similar to that time they armed those Shites and let them run Fallujah only for the Shites to join the insurgents they were supposed to keeping out! And then loads of US solidiers died taking the city back again.

There's a Sunni in the article who clearly states he'd use the weapons outside his neighbour to hunt down Shite militias, which is a lot worse than it sounds! Wont this undermine the crappy Iraqi police forces?

What do you guys thinks?

whenever there is a raid (90% of the raids that i took part in were soft entry, we call em "Cordon and Knock" instead of hard entry) and we find more than one weapon, we take the extra and give the head of the household a reciept to be compensated for the confiscated weapon(s). funny thing is, most the time when they asked which firearm they are willing to part with, 9 times outta 10, homeboy is gonna choose to keep the double barreled shot gun over the kalashnikov.

Yeah im aware that Fallujah isnt a shite area im just comparing it with the time they armed that Sunni division put a old Iraqi general in charge and told the them to control the city. I remember when US forces retook the city the found that many of the insurgents were armed with weapons that had been given to the division that had been told to protect the city!

Its not just Sunni's there armed they were just talking to a few Sunni's in the article. Im just not sure Iraq needs anymore guns!!

In my opinion we should just get out of the middle east and never look back. Then we should only allow Middle Easterners with kids to come into the states. If they have kids the odds of them preforming suicidal acts are slim to none. And by the time their kids are grown they'll be so assimilated that suicide bombing will be a thing of the past... (did you ever watch American Dreamz... gets me everytime...)
