Typically you set both the min and max size ofthe pagefile to 1.5 times the amount of physical RAM in the system.

So, if you have 1 GB of RAM (1024 MB), your pagefile min and max sizes would be set to 1536.

Oh, ok then. I'll give that a go. Is having too large a PF detrimental to my PC's performance, i.e. ingame?

Too small of a pagefile would cause more problems than having a too large of a pagefile.  However, a too large pagefile will cause undue overhead on your computer.

Ideally, just let Windows manage the pagefile size.  But if you're into tweaking, or if you're having problems with errors such as "Your computer is running low on virtual memory..." - then start with setting the pagefile to 1.5 times the size of physical RAM.

You can always set it large though, and then have it delete it's self automatically on shutdown.

Well, on office PC's and stuff like that, a large paging file is good, but on gaming PC's, the paging file really cause lag. If you have 1GB+ RAM in your computer, I'd recommend you disabling it.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Not a good idea. I have just 1GiB in my rig right now, as my other stick failed, and I've been swapping like woah. A good idea would be, if you have multiple disks, to set up your page file on a disk other than the one you have Windows on. Obviously getting more RAM and a faster harddrive would be better, but that goes without saying.
