I just want your opinion on commander spotting or "spamming" as the admins at tactical gamer call it. Do you want the enemy to be spotted and listen to my annoying commander voice or not and be killed from behind by a nub.

I want the commander to only spot enemies that are at risk to squadleaders or at risk to people capturing/defending flags.

It's no help if the commander is spotting every enemy on the map at the same time, or spotting the same sniper 12 times in one second.

sensible spotting along with the uav is the best thing a commander can do.

I wish the 'anti-radio-spam' feature were better implemented and everybody used 'spotted' a hell of a lot more.

Really F'ING PISSES ME OFF, when I get shot in the back, by someone who 90% of my team mates can all quite clearly see!!!! ARGH!!!

Spot what helps is my take on it. "What helps" does not include inanimate objects, snipers swimming in the middle of the ocean, out-of-control planes 5 miles over the edge of the map, the 15 people at the J-10 spawn point, and the AFK guy repeatedly falling to his death at a parachute spawn.

Ok Jamesey i see you don't agree with me which i don't mind. I spot everything on the map, i don't spot for only 1 squad.

Like Jamesey said, only spotting people near flags which are being taken. Spotting the other commander at Gatehouse while the team is taking Square is no help...

A commander should use the spot feature to warn anyone in the area that an enemy is there.

When I have a good commander on my team, and I hear "enemy infantry spotted" I always glance at my minimap to make sure the enemy isn't sneaking up on my squad.

If you're spamming nonstop every enemy you see then you're not even keeping an eye on my squad, which makes you useless and is probably the reason admins kick you.

As commander, I only spot the enemies that are a threat to my players, and aren't covered by the uav. And also I'll spot the stray ones that are trying to be clever and make a move.

Sometimes a blind spot is called for, though, and I'll tell a squad at a flag I'm doing a blind spot just to make sure no one's around the flag they're going for.

But for the most part, the spam is extremely annoying and completely unnecessary.

Speaking of blind spotting, if you're the kind of commander that likes to randomly spam spot every flag our team has to make sure there's nobody capping it, resulting in 3 mins of nonstop spam and 100 question marks, hang yourself because I hate you.

Also commanders who refuse to UAV and any time I shout at them give me the message "squadleader UAV available on your request"
It's not my fucking job to request every uav where I need it, that defeats the purpose of a commander having a top-down view of the action.

Yes, cause any commander that has any competetion experience, was to learn how to spam spot.

That depends why you're doing it.

A lot people here seem to be implying that the commander should concentrate all his resources on helping just one squad. The commander needs to be doing a hell of a lot more than that.

Yes spotting the swimming sniper may not help you but it certainly would help to the chopper crew. Its an easy kill. And whats easier then killing an AFK guy? Being AFK and dieing while parachuting can only happen in BF42.

I always do my best by giving UAV and other support but when my assets are down i need to spot randomly. I guess you hate me. Too bad.

Firstly, go into more detail, spotting etiquette changes if you're on IO or vehicle maps, vehicle maps require a lot more spotting and a lot more squads than infantry only.

inf karkand you're lucky to have one good squad that knows what they're doing, so less spotting is required.

If you're on a 64 man vehicle map with both teams capping/defending flags then you have to spam spot most of the map.

I try just to spot those who are near my troops, taking our flags near troops or trying to run the quarantines we have set up or get out of UAV radius. It is still annoying as commander to hear the seemingly gibberish talk of non-English speaking commanders over and over. It's a part of the game though, so ya just gotta live with it. I'm commanding to help my teammates via spotting, supplies, vehicles, whatever they need.

No, it doesn't. If I spot the commander at Gatehouse while none of my team are near Gatehouse, it is no use. Unless in these new wave of hack threads there has been a teleport hack I missed, I can't see the point and it's wasting time when you could be helping your team.

.Sup wrote:

I thought anyone with a brain would work that a commander wants his team to win, but I guess not. Of course I'd spot them. If it's Karkand (or possibly Jalalabad) and no one on my team are near, I'd drop arty without spotting so my team doesn't run into it like mindless idiots trying to get a quick kill or two. If they survive, then I spot.

I usually play on INF only but when commanding i'm almost always on a vehicle server. This thread was made so i can get some tips from all of you. I don't want to be annoying on pubs with wild spotting (ofc this doesn't count when i'm playing conquest competitively ).

Yeah, but it doesn't take the whole team to cap the Square.

If you've got a friendly spec-ops lone-wolf running around, spotting the commander at the Gatehouse could be far more important than spotting any other player, anywhere, on the map.

As someone else implied - it all depends on context - do the right thing at the right time - even when that might appear to be 'spotted spamming' to everybody else.

For that matter, why does this game have an "enemy forces spotted" saying when they could just say the vehicle? All that phrase means is that you have missed what you are actually spotting out or you spotted a dead body.

Always spot enemy helicopters and jets. They should be priority on any vehicle server. On wake, as soon as the game starts on spotting the aircraft of the runway, with any luck our jet hasn't been repeatedly tk for the pilot seat and is in the air quickly.

If your going to spot for one squad, then give a UAV to another squad. Capture 2 flags at once.

I asked a clan mate about this. The answer I got was "I just spot everything." I don't think that meant everything, but everything that might be important. I know it can be annoying, but it's part of the game. I prefer the commander spot too much than not enough. But really there's no point in spotting stuff that's on the other side of the map from your team unless it's a jet.

Well if he's swimming between North Village and South base on Wake it helps to spot because it give someone time to get back or spawn there to cut him off. If you don't keep spotting him they will think he died.

No shit it doesn't take the whole team to cap it, but what I was saying is if no one is near the commander, no point in spotting him/her. Also, like I just said:

None of my team = no one. No lone spec-ops guy. Nothing. If someone is near there or on their way, yes, I'll spot the commander. But not when no one on my team is there.

Whenever a commander is spt-spamming with me, I sitch audio source to line-in and play my old raspy "Can't touch this" tape, or Cazy frog (Bought the CD to annoy people)

That usually works...
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
