Hey, I have all the req. badges to get this rank, just not the 20,000 yet. So dont think this is another thread asking why I can't get the First Sergeant rank. I looked around the ranks section and read a few posts, and more importantly searched! and I was just wondering which rank do you go to after First Sergeant? Do you just continue on with the 30k straight to Master Gunnery Sergeant? or in my case (seeing as i have the badges for that too already) Sergeant Major? But then what after Sergeant Major, is it then just to 2nd Lieutenant and if so! Whats the fucking point in having the First Sergeant and Sergeant Major ranks, just for show?

It means you get priority for the commander spot. Let's say a Master Gunny and a Sergeant Major both want to be commander. WHile both positions are the same pointwise, the Sergeant Major becomes commander because he's more "experienced" (i.e., has more badges).

Also, after First Sergeant is Master Gunnery Sergeant, but since you have all the badges, you'll be a Sergeant Major.
