It seems now that people are just so fucking stupid. Even more so than usual, if that is possible.

In the eairly to mid 20th century people seemed to produce more for society and take on whatever role need be to help society. Now we have the lazy motherfuckers that exploit the welfare system, and do nothing but leech of the progress of others.

Our education was much better than it is now. I mean these remidial classes that people (WHO MUST BE FUCKING RETARDED) take are just like 3rd grade math. Man if i can fucking sleep during pre-calculus and get a B in that class then other people should be fine. Its sad because im not the sharpest tool in the shed (im not saying im stupid but im not the smartest guy out there).

Our idols have changed from being a scientist like einstine to being a whore like paris hilton. Come the fuck on! What kind of shit is that? Why the fuck would you want to be a whore?! Thats were half the retardation comes from.

Basiclly our society is majorly fucked up.

There are plenty of intelligent motivated people out there, so are we completely fucked?  I don't think so.  However, when you look at modern politics, it is terrifying to see the lack of intellectual ability and the degree of ignorance held by many.

Society however, yes.  It's disgusting.  I can't go a fucking day without hearing about how many days it has been since Lindsay Lohan last had a fucking beer, or who Britney Spears assaulted this time.  Fuck the whole Anna Nicole Smith bullshit that went on for months.  I guess that's mostly media... but regardless, people still care about the stuff..

That's because smart people can think ahead, and realize that while condoms do initially cost a little bit.. they save thousands in the long run.

Plus.. the whole overpopulation thing is going to get really ugly in the next century if we don't start planning ahead -- but as a species, we're terrible at that.

But, there have always been stupid people... lots of stupid people.  People like Einstein have always been the exception, and it's probably better that way.  Stupid people make life fun.. because they do stupid shit.

I think with all the conflicts boiling up World War 3 will take care of our population problem . The main thing is that we need to be focused on edjucation, because almost every child has the capacity to learn.

Honestly I think that a large part of it is the fact that many of my generation (those born in the late 80's to the present day) are part of a generation that expects everything to be handed to them.  I've seen many of my peers bitch and moan because their parents won't buy them this or that like, and it's usually not even that important.  Seriously, I know many people who think that they are simply entitled to get whatever they want, God forbid they do something to actually earn it.

Another part of the problem, at least the way I see it, is the role models that many of my generation have.  For the most part, it seems, people my age look up to rappers and movie stars who have more money than they know what to do with, and as such the choose to buy almost anything and everything insight.  Add on to that, the "one up man-ship" that seems to be going on not just in Hollywood, but across most of the world, and you get a generation of young people who only look out for themselves, don't understand the value of money, and have absolutely no respect for others.

Finally, one thing that I have noticed, and had a recent discussion about with my father, is that it seems that our society has lost its family values.  Part of this goes back to the celebrity role models of our youth and the game of musical spouses they seem to always be playing or things like the recent incident of Usher deciding not to marry his pregnant girlfriend, but another part is the incredible number of single parents and divorced parents that exist, at least in the US.  While it can sometimes turn out for the best, usually these parents don't have enough time for their children because they are just trying to make enough money to support them.  As such these children don't look up to their parents, but rather those who remain around them, those who don't always have the child's best interest in mind.  The result can easily turn into a high school drop out, and a person who will be in and out of jail for the rest of their life.

Is this a devolution of Society?   I wouldn't necessarily call it that, since we aren't reverting in to a previous state.  That being said, I would definitely say that society is heading in a direction which human beings aren't looking out for one another, a direction which definitely could lead to a devolution in the future.

But you can throw all the money you want at the education system and it wouldn't help all that much.  I think good parenting is the only real way to get kids to really want to learn.  Motivation at a young age and all the way through high school will go a lot farther than state of the art computers.  If you don't give a shit about what your kids are doing then they'll probably not give a shit about what they're learning in their integrated math class... because they probably will be across the street smoking cigs.. (that's what the hard asses do at my school, they're so neat -- they smell good all the time too)

The problem is not all parents are good parents. Some parents are extremly lazy and dont do a damn thing with thier kids.

My mum's office used to employ a mentally challenged worker to help out around the place.  She was payed less than minimum wage.  Then someone had the brilliant idea of declaring that all disabled people (including mentally) had to be paid minimum wage.  So they had to let her go.  Why?  Because she didn't do the same work as any other worker, and sometimes she'd break down and the staff would have to take care of her and send her back to her employment office to see a counsellor.  They paid her what she was worth, and she enjoyed being valuable.  But thanks to someone who didn't think through what they were doing, she probably lost what little work she did have.

Your analysis is dually flawed. First, you are making observations based on your perceptions. You do not have emperical data or even evidence outside of hearsay. Second, your perceptions are highly influenced by the media and redderick. These "developments" are likely both exaggerated and preexisting.

I totally agree that the idolization of the unremarkable is terribly bad-form. If we were to idolize anyone, it should be our brightest, bravest, most creative, and most enlightened individuals. Our heiress playgirls do not set good examples for our young people in the slightest. I surely do not want my future children to grow up looking to Paris Hilton as a role-model.

Our country, albeit wealthy, has woefully inadequate financial policy. I believe that since the early 2000s our education system has become nothing more than a disgusting bastard-child of its former self. How could it be that a school which performs poorly on standardized tests, would be financially punished. Many things can't be fixed by "throwing money at it" but education is not one of them. Well funded schools can allocate resources to things other than math and science, which I can assure you creates happy students. Exposure to a variety of fields helps children find what professional field relates to their interests. No child left behind, I think not.

Furthermore, it seems that the our forefathers wishes of a separation between church and state has become a distant memory when it comes to political issues. Someones religious beliefs should have no place in a presidential debate.

With all of these complaints in mind, we must not forget that as far as countries go, we are still in our infancy. Look to a country like China with thousands of years of history, they still haven't figured it out. Hundreds of millions living in poverty, their absolute rape of natural resources, these are no better than our foolish media and education.
