This will kick ass for several reasons:

No paperwork, which means no paperwork and I get a guaranteed A for that class.

If I get this class for 3rd period(which is the longest class period) I get to just hang out and use computers and sometimes even fix them for 2 whole hours.

I will make some of my friends jealous.

I get community service hours for fixing peoples computer, which is much needed as they may soon be bumping community service requirements of the graduating class of 2010 from 36 hours to 72 hours, of which I have only completed 2.

I get to learn about computers.

I get to make friends with people who can actually understand what i'm saying when I breakout into techno-blurb.

So basically what you're saying is...

You get to be a nerd.  And you're happy/proud of that.  And you're happy that you get to befriend other fellow nerds?

It's not a bad thing really.  People at this school are far more tolerant of nerds than they are of other people, particularly people who pretend to know how to skateboard, "posers" as we call them.

Required community service in school=failz

I already graduated, but this year I was offered to be an aid in my Web Design class, but was forced to turn it down as I wasn't coming back

Good luck friend, have fun dealing with the computer retarded, not even being an aid I was forced to help some of the more "special" kids in my web design class

They are different? That's retarded. At my school there are 8x ~40min periods a day (although we have lots of doubles)

Well, at my school, it's the same; 3rd period is the longest. The reason being that 3rd period is considered to be homeroom. Each period at my school goes for 50/55 Minutes (forget which), but homeroom goes an extra 15 minutes. With normally 6 periods. I get 7 usually though. 0 Period ftl.

@OP
We have two computer labs at school, but I've never been in a computer class. Mainly because my last one was: "Press 'A' to type 'A' onto the screen." GAH.

Hope you have fun there.

Well I got to get a position like that this last year and well, i quit after a week.
I don't feel nerdish enough to hang out with them at the help desk

and besides now i"m finished high school i'm planning on starting my own little computer store, there's only one around and he has a monopoly on price because of that. hell I get parts almost half the price he sells, if it's not even more sometimes

lmao

On paper this is not even what i'm doing, it's considered going to the guidance(the place where people do a shitload of paperwork and could often care less about your problem, fortunately my mom is the nurse at my school and is well-respected) office for an entire period.

My school's schedule is 4 periods(we call them mods), each being at least 1 hour and 30 minutes with the 3rd mod being a 2 hours, these are divided into A days and B days which have different classes in place on either day.  Last year my Algebra class was on both of my 3rd mods.

Nice I was one last year.

It was the best

Whenever the school had a problem, I was pulled out of classes and went on. I would be excused from my work also. I would get homeroom off so I didnt have to read and I got 2nd period off, and if I wanted too, also lunch.
All the teachers loved me cuz I fixed their computers, and the system administrator was the best!
He was like a father, and he was so bad ass, some days when it was a slow day he would buy me and the other aid lunch and we would watch a movie.
The best thing though if we ever needed to print something or do homework, he would help us and let us use his resources. Though be prepared for the teachers simple problems and their whining, that what I disliked the most.

I'm still going back in the summer to help him.

Oh yea and you won't be called a nerd, I was probably the most popular guy in the school cuz I got to help the teachers and get out of class, so everyone also wanted the "class" and asked me how I got it.

One thing though, you will be trusted with a lot of administrative password and domains, so be careful.

Good luck and have fun, you will learn lots

*EDIT* The principal gave me all the community hours I will be needing to graduate for the class of 2011.

I hope my experience is similiar to yours but there's a lot of other aids here I think.

Yea I did I don't get the hours until summer ends though, when I attend my first day of ninth grade.

I was recommended in seventh by the current aid, and believe or not, it all started out when we were talking about computer gaming and such, and he asked me if I knew about computers, so he invited me to hang out with him and the Sys. Admin. For the remaining of seventh grade (which was about 3-4 months) I was able to get to work with them but I wasnt an "official" aid, didnt get a grade for it, but I learned a lot, and a lot of teachers gain trust of me.

You are going to enjoy it, and If you ever need help, just ask, Im sure you will know by then, but I bet the problems will be similar to the ones I faced.

Yeah probably.  I'm not looking forward to printer problems as I hear they have the potential to be very annoying.  I'm mainly a hardware guy, which is unfortunate since most of the problems the teachers might have are software based.

Things have changed since I was in high school. We didn't have a computer lab, just one class with 10 machines we had to share. Everything was DOS and none of them were networked. We didn't have any community service requirements either, but I think having them is a good idea.

Good luck and congrats, _j5689!

In the U.S. it is for most places, it depends on the county and state requirements, some people have to do over 100 hours of community service.
