I'm a moderator of this forum for tweaking games and computers:

There's some stupid asshole behind a proxy that keeps coming into the tools section and posting porn and it's FUCKING FRUSTRATING.  We banned his IP hoping that would stop him but he's a professional douche bag and is taking advantage of his proxy to fuck with us.  I wouldn't be surprised if he was doing this to several other small forums as well.

Is there anything that can detect and ban proxys for this type of forum?

Well, seeing as how this is coming from a small unknown source, it's probably the malicious kind of porn.

ALl you can do is preview peoples posts and approve/disapprove comments. You can see how cumbersome that could get but yeah, that's about the only way to stop someone. I have no idea where you'd get the code for something like that but yeah.... cdogmn ring a bell? lol

I found out that you can put in an authorization code to register so if it's a bot, then the spam will stop because it can't see the code.  If the authorization is passed, then it is a human and we would still be in some shit.  I PM'ed the creator and told him about the authorization code although it may still be difficult to tell him, I don't think his English is that good but he'll probably get the gist of it.

They're called CAPTCHAs, very effective usually.

Anywhos, if you're using phpBB (like you said), then under General Admin, Configuration:

Enable account activation:
None (just goes), User (confirmation email), Admin (email + yay from Admin)

Enable Visual Confirmation
CAPTCHA.

I know, but he was talking about bots.

The only thing I know of that can stop some proxies (mainly browser-based ones) are certain Javascript things. Honestly, you just gotta for a lack of a better term suck it up. Now you know what cdogmn is like =p
