When I heard it on the news they said they were 15,000 feet below...  I'm guessing my news fucked up because that sounds stupid.  Either way, these coal mine accidents are too frequent.  We should update regulation standards on all open coal mines.

They're three miles down I heard (I didn't think that was 1,500ft), but there have been a few accidents at coal mines recently, both in the US and several other countries, like China and Russia I think.

That article is kind of confusing. Rescue workers get to 1700ft before becoming blocked, the title says 1500ft is where the workers are at, and the estimate is 3 miles. 15,000ft is probably what they were going to say.

At any rate, it must be really scary for them. Hope they get out alive and well.
