The Channel4 documentary series 'Dispatches' has been reported to the TV industry regulator 'Ofcom' for supposedly misrepresenting the activities and words of certain Islamic mosques and speakers. I myself missed the program in question but have watched 'Dispatches' in the past and always found it interesting and considered it to be seemingly quite objective.

"The Crown Prosecution Service says the programme "completely distorted" what the speakers said.

CPS lawyer Bethan David examined 56 hours of footage from the Dispatches investigation - of which a fraction went to air.

She said: "The splicing together of extracts from longer speeches appears to have completely distorted what the speakers were saying.

"But in this case we have been dealing with a heavily edited television programme, apparently taking out of context aspects of speeches which in their totality could never provide a realistic prospect of any convictions.""

I guess Islamophobia sells.

Your link doesn't work. Thanks. I tried to read the article but the "take your seats for Channel 4 Film" ad left me strangely mesmerized. So many asses enthusiastically planting themselves to chairs...

But I know all about out-of-context clips:

Unfortunately, the article didn't say exactly what had been said.

I saw the programme and to be honest there is no way on earth that the kind of shit that was coming out of those imams mouths could be taken 'in context' and sound good. Those imams were scum and I support Channel 4 on this one.

"Mr Usamah said he had been featured as saying homosexuals should be thrown from a mountain when in fact he was explaining it was an opinion featured in some books, which was not one he believed".

Editing? Context? Somehing is amiss.....however i do belive some of them imams should be locked up....

I saw one of the guys being interviewed this evening on Channel4 news and I found it interesting that he kept saying it was taken out of context while not actually clarifying the context from which it was supposedly taken.

I have to agree with cam on this one. See my point stands about the cult of personality that they build around themselves.
