So, I'm fairly new to IRC (because I mostly use AIM *gasp*)
The reason for this is because i can never properly connect to any server.
As you can see by the two pictures below, it doesnt really quite matter what client software i use either.
So, i need help on knowing how to connect without fail if it would be possible.

And by the way, i looked at this thread to, didnt help me much...

Try changing your nick so it doesn't have the = sign in it. "iRnoob" might work if nobody's using it.

nope, still didn't work.

I tried taking all strange characters out of my name, and all numbers, and still have a problem, but thanx for the help.

Sorry but it's a little late, so I'm going to bed. The only other suggestion I have is to try a specific server

if you're in the US type

/server Slim.NY.US.Gamesurge.net

if you're in Europe type

/server Burstfire.UK.EU.gamesurge.net

Do you have a Firewall? Disable Firewalls / XP Firewall. Sometimes Firewalls, Or even Routers can Cause the Software Connection Abort.

Edit - Also try different Ports, A Server list can be found Here.

I once got a software connection abort on mIRC when I opened Winamp. The ways of IRC are sometimes crazy.

I think it's the icon we get by disabling automatic updates on XP to avoid that stupid validation check. Like my XP could be pirated..

Oh that another, I first thought it was Nokia PC Suite.

Well, it was a firewall.

After I took the screen shot, i disabled my anti-virus and firewall, resest the computer with both of them disabled and trieds it, still didn't work.

I still have yet to go into safe mode with networking and try it there.

Sorry, dont mean to spam this thread, but update...
For anyone else that is having the issue of "Software causing a connection abort"...
Change the port settings of the server from 6667 (or whatever it is) to 7000

It worked for me.
