Ok guys don’t laugh to much. I don’t know a lot about what to get so that is why I am asking. I went onto Dell and put together an inexpensive machine. I went with 4gb of ram and the best video card they offer. Is this ok or is it junk? This priced out at $1369. All the specs are below.

Thanks

32 bit XP cant even see 4gig ram I don't think....

Lemme be the first one to just say build it your self. Its really really easy and you will get more for your moneys worth.

32Bit operating systems cant use all 4GB RAM. You need a 64bit operating system.

That processor is ok for the price - but id expect better.

Im not impressed by the video card - look for nVidia.

What victor said, no need in getting 4 GB with 32bit XP. With that Said. I would NOT go for a 2600XT. I dunno the price, but I've seen 8800GT's 512 MB for 200 euro's. around 290 dollars, but I am sure its hella lot cheaper in the US.

Also build it yourself, you will get a 300 page booklet with the mobo on how the install everything, even a monkey could do it. Which brings me to the final question, what kinda of mobo? Cuz I am not seeing one in that list...

I agree... you can build it yourself... very easy...
You could have a 6600 dual core(225.00)/8800gt(300.00)/2gb ram(50-75.00)/antec900(100.00)/650wt...PS(120.00)/2 dvd burners(75.00)/680i evga moboard(180.00)500gb sata hd(100.00) for less than 1350.00

There are plenty of people in here that can help you put it together...

It's not a super state-of-the-art computer, but it'll definitely get the job done for a good price. Also, although mine is nearly half the price, it doesn't include a monitor (which I already have) and the mouse/keyboard. Additionally, I'm not purchasing an Operating System because I get one for free courtesy of my school (screw downloading one that doesn't work and has to be cracked).

Oh, and don't go for the Radeon HD's, check out www.tomshardware.com, those new Radeons are shit. You can get better cards for the same price. (Personally I'm just getting an older videocard to save some bucks, but I might just wind up upgrading to a DX10 card if I wait for another paycheck or two to come in).

I'd skimp on the RAM (2GB is enough imo) and go for a ATI HD3850 256MB instead.

Buy all your parts from newegg, it will save you a good deal of money. I built a 4400+ with 2gb ram and a 7950 for less than $500

Stick prossesor into motherboard
stick ram into mother board
stick video card into motherboard
plug hard drives and disk drives into motherboard
plug powerline from PSU into motherboard, hard drives, video card....
Boot with CD of operating system.
Thats all it takes, You dont need to know much...and what you do need to know you can read off the internet. Pretty much just plugging things in and most things are color coded or have a specific shaped plug.

I find it most easy to install cpu + cooler and ram into the mobo first and then putting the mobo in the case. after that I install everything else like cables and gfx card. it is a lot easier to install cpu cooler when the motherboard is outside the case

Really? I'm going to be using Vista x64, and I want to take advantage of how cheap RAM is. But I'm definitely reconsidering my choice of videocard. At first I wanted to get something that was DX10, but then realized they were pretty expensive... however now I'm thinking it'd probably be a good idea so I wouldn't have to upgrade later on.

Yeah I wasn't too sure about the Rosewill. I was very unwary of it, but I had a real tech-savvy friend go over my list and he actually recommended it because the PSU I had before was only 400W.

So I'll definitely be switching out that PSU now

make sure to get the 64bit XP, if not you'll not take advantage of all that memory.

The only time I would by a computer prebuilt is a laptop other wise build it your self
