Long time reader, first time poster.  I have come and gone from this site for a couple months now, checking stats, getting tips and reading posts.  I finally have a problem I can't solve.

Here's my rig:

AMD Athlon 3200+ CPU
2.5 GB 3200 SDRAM
Gigabyte 6800
160 GB Seagate HDD x2
*19" Samsung LCD 930 BF

Here's my problem:

After finally receiving my monitor after waiting a month in the mail; you could imagine my excitement to try this beautiful beast out -- I bought it primarily to play BF2 of course (*Sigh* nearly $500.00 later) and after installing the fresh drivers and tweeking my resolution and refresh to the native resolution (1280x1024 @ 75) I was about to see BF2 through a new light. But that light was soon blocked by a few seconds of flickering and a devastating failure to load the game.  It brought me back to my desktop with no problem though, such a nice bug.

Some things I've conisdered.  Lowering the resolution and refresh rate - hey why not right?  Yeah that didn't help.

Delete the "MagicTune" software that "optimizes" performance (and takes up nearly 300MB on your HDD) - Yeah, that didn't really do much either.

So my fellow gamers, I come to the eversearched forums of BF2S.COM for answers and the hope someone can help.  If you need any more info about my rig, settings, etc. - please ask, and if you can help - please post!  I'm currently stationed in Turkey and love to "practice" with this game on my downtime.  I actually fired expert with my pistol at the shooting range after playing this for a while believe it or not.  Tango Mike for your help soliders, Sierra Yankee Oscar Tango Bravo! Oohrah

I had same issue this past friday when I received my new 8ms BENQ 19 "  LCD from newegg "by the way it was a heck of a deal $299.00 plus $60.00 mail in rebate and no dead pixels" but anyway the only way to fix it was to reinstall BF2. Dont know what the problem was but that fixed it. Akso another fella in my clan had same issue with his new LCD.

I definately haven't tried that solution yet, but if it's working for others, why not.  I wonder what kind of bug that is... Maybe an issue with the change in drivers... oh well, i'll let you know how it goes.

Are you using the DVI cable instead of the analog D-Sub now?  I couldn't believe the difference in clarity and detail it gives you.  My monitor came with both and tried them out, DVI is the only way too go.  I think I'll upgrade to a 7800 video card next.

The Specs on this bad boy are sick:
Pixel Pitch 0.294mm
Display Colours 16.2 Million
Brightness 270 cd/m2
Contrast Ratio 700:1
Response Time 4ms (Gray to Gray)
Horizontal Fresh Rate 30-81 kHz
Vertical Fresh Rate 56-75 Hz

The same thing happened to me when I got my LCD, to fix it all I did was delete the BF2 folder in My Documents and the game worked magically.

MooneyB is the man.  "Magically" This fixed the same issue with my new Samsung Monitor as well.  Although when I got to the Multiplayer screen and only got 1 Ranked server *doh* forgot to install the latest patch.  Thanks for the help.  This should be put in a COMMON PROBLEM thread folder... very frustrating issue with a VERY SIMPLE FIX!!!  Mad props - if I could, I'd give you my 2 new unlocks bro.  Out

Hey, I had the same problem with my (42" Plasma), but all u have to do is to go to "my documents" - Bf2 folder - Profiles - Default (C or D:\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\Default) - Video (open it with wordpad or something) There u change the Hz u have right now with you're monitor and the resolution. Was so annoying until I figured But it's nonsense ... u dont have to reinstall the game

Sounds like you're running a resolution or refresh rate that the new LCD does not support.  The post above mine explains where (my docs\bf2\profiles\default ) the settings file is located.  You need to set the program to open in a res/refresh combo that your new LCD supports.

Well, I found another thread that says if you delete the C:\My Documents\Battlefield 2 folder entirely it will work.  And lucky for me, that did work.  My only question now is, will this affect my profile, stats or anything else during gameplay?  I will have to restore the /Battlefield 2 Folder, and try the edit for my HZ Refresh rate.  I have it set on 60 now but my LCD specs. says it supports up to 75.  I'll have to see what it is set @ just to confirm another fix to that "bug."  Any other thoughts, please share for future issues of the same nature.

And man I wish I would of known about deleting that file that would of been alot easier then doing a reinstall

There's no need to set a LCD above 60.  There's a term known as "native resolution" for every LCD that is basically the resolution the screen is built to run.  All the LCDs I'll looked at have their native resolution at 60hz, so while it may support better you should run it at the native resolution for the screen to look the best.  I managed to kill a 17" LCD from running it at 70hz refresh rate.  It ran at that res for months, but not it simply flashes on then turns off at ALL resolutions and refresh rates.    Luckily it's a work machine, not my personal.  Guess work should have sprung for the extended warranty.

Oh, all your stats, medals, etc, are stored online not in your local profile.  I built a new computer and installed my same BF2 on it, logged in as me and viola!  all my stats and everything were there the first time I logged in.  as an after thought, I never played the game local.  I doubt that anything you "accomplished" playing a Local game will still be there.  That's the type of stuff that would be stored in that my docs folder.
