When I try to log into AIM (the newest release) it says "connection timed out".  I have been using this same version for months now with no problems.  I downloaded and reinstalled - still get timed out.  All other programs can connect to the internet (games, xfire, FF, IE, etc.)

Weird thing:  the older version of AIM from 2 or 3 years ago CAN connect without problems.  so why the hell is the new version unable to connect?

I don't know how to fix your problem, but I can offer alternatives.
1) Trillian!
2) Use AIM 5.???; AIM 6.0 blows majorly, which is what caused me to finally switch over to Trillian.

Or it may be something up with the AIM servers.... nope! I logged on just fine...

Yeah I think I'll give Trillian a try, I've heard nothing but good things about it.

Just try and find a crack for the pro version. Pro is so much better (chat logging, history, better interface).

I was reluctant at first and it took a little getting used to, but it's an amazing program and great for managing multiple IM accounts (I've got 2 or 3 AIMs, a yahoo, and an MSN)

I assume that you've checked your firewall isn't blocking it?

Try disabling it and then try and connect, that will rule out you firewall being the issue.

Had the same EXACT problem last night. Open AIM, go to Edit ---> Settings ---> Connection ---> Reset ---> Auto Configure ---> Apply. Restart AIM, try that. If that doesn't work, Try reinstalling and trying the previous steps I gave.

I have 6.0, which I guess is what your using, get this problem now and then, just uninstall, delete everything from AIM off your computer, restart computer, and reinstall.

On a second thought, try what ReDevilJR said, I'll probably do the same thing from now on....save me some time.
