No matter what recording program I use, it won't record sounds.

I've tried Fraps, GameCam, and ZD Soft.

Do I need a non-built-in sound card, or am I just doing something wrong?

You are doing something wrong. You need to make sure : Stereo Mix is on, somewhere in the sound menu, cant guide you through it as I have a Dutch Windows and so don't know the correct English translations, if someone does know help this guy out

Hmm..the only sound options I see are:
Channels
Samples
Bits
Auto Config Mixer (either disabled or enabled)
Audio Source
Recording Volume

I tried setting the Audio Source to my microphone and putting it right by the speakers, but that didn't work either.
