(I searched, no question found in archives)

Just want an honest opinion. I feel that 1942 is still stronger, as in it ran smoother, less buggy, faster connect times. I mean, I like the badges and medals and all this good stuff. but for "weekend Warriors" I don't feel they out-did 1942.

Flame on.

P.S. someone move this to the right category, as I'm a dumbass. thank you, have a good night.

I prefer BF2 just for the whole ranking up process. But BF1942 will always have a special place in my heart. (CORAL SEA FTW!!)

Vanilla bf2 beats vanilla bf42 IMHO.  I'm addicted to ranks.  But bf42 has some sweet mods.

I just d/led the bf1942 demo this past weekend, found it to be pretty cool.your right as far as connecting faster.and the old war relics are cool, but it wasnt by any means better than bf2.I found it to be very laggy(I know its only the demo)and the motions of the soldiers were weird, especially after you killed them.
so yea,bf2 rocks on imo...

I like them both but played BF2 more then 1942. But 1942 is nicer to my poor grapchic card.

Now there would be the cool mod... BF1942 and BF:Vietnam using the BF2 engine... yummy goodness

On a side note, BF2 has had 3 or 4 patches with another 1 on the way... BF1942 had a new patch every week or so for awhile there so I wouldn't say it was less buggy just different bugs in BF2 primarily having to do with the same crap the Desert Combat people were dealing with conserning vehicles and weapons and then the addition of the ranking system which they seem to keep adjusting.

I was addicted to 42 and swore never to change, until I played BF2 demo a couple of times.  Now I can't go back.  I can't seem to function without my sprint key or my unlocks.  I love the G36's.  If I could use my Medic G36 and had a sprint key, I'd go back and play 42 some more...

BF42 was a whole new game when it came out, it added a whole new aspect to online gaming. BF42 wasn't focused much on infantry (probably because infantry is the main aspect to ALL FPS games) but on the vehicles. Planes especially. The infantry sucked for 42. I was a pilot though so I didn't care. I love 1942.
Everything in BF2 is great. I still mainly pilot(now) but it's always nice to change to infantry, and feel like a real infantry unit.
Ofcourse BF2 is better than BF42. But without BF42, BF2 wouldn't exist
I love both games, but BF2 takes the cake.

i prefer BF2 just for the sheer amount of content, the squad-based teamwork (well, at least it'd work if anyone tried it :p ) and for just how goddamn gorgeous it can be if you crank the graphics up.

Hm, I'd rather compare BF2 with the BF1942-Desert Combat mod.   Sure BF2 has all of the new goodies like the updated engine, graphics, physics, squads..etc. But in Desert Combat, you lived without all of that.  The thing is, DC IMO seemed much more balanced-Kit wise.  This is just my reminiscence/speculation:

-Engineers could take out tanks by sneaking up on them and tossing a mine or two directly onto the tank and it would most likely exlpode a few seconds later; (sometimes this was more effective than the AT kit) where as in BF2, the mine will usually just slide off.

-Assault class didn't seem like much of a problem with its GL attachment as it is in BF2.

-Support class actually has an accurate LMG, hell you can fire off 5-10 rounds or so in bursts and the crosshair would recenter to almost 0 recoil- making the class much more useful.

-Sniper Class has plenty of rounds for their primary sniper rifles, and...they're accurate!!

-Anti Tank class had no guided rocket feature to their weapon, which I kinda prefer rather than having to stay put to guide your rocket into something.   AT also had portable Stinger missle launchers as well; (depending on map)  If I can remember, you needed 1 stinger to down a small heli., 2 for attack helis. and maybe 3 for transport helis.

-Medic Class..well I can't really remember too well :P

-Spec Ops class didn't seem to be as powerfull as it is in BF2, (no sticky c4, or the precious G36C)

And other things: No pesky commander giving off your position while your camping as a sniper, etc.   No team-seeking air-to-air missles, and IMO the flight physics for helis were a blast-you can strafe ground troops and other vehicles while maintaining high altitude in a constant circle.  Artillery was provided by long range attack vehicles such as the SCUD! No flight altitude limit- as in losing control of your craft for flying too high :/ and much more.

But in the end, I'd rather play the current installment, however theres so much more room for improvement- EA/Dice needs to go back to their roots!! >;/

BF1942 will always be special, but I just really like BF2. The awards, the ranks, and especially, (for me at least,) the community.

Yes, you guys are what make this game worth playing for me. In BF1942 I was an annonymous fairly good pilot and Sniper that turned up every now and then, yet with BF2, and BF2S, I'm  the loudmouth prick from New Zealand that always has some useless comment for almost everything, and the Shihad lyric signature.

Also, it's nice to play a game with such awesome graphics as BF2.

BF2 for sure. Not because of the graphics etc. but because it focuses more on TEAMWORK. I love playing on a team with a good command and players I can trust. Makes for a totally different experience.

BF2 because i think it runs smoother in a battle, and i can aactually spot things and ask for pickup etc without having to look at my keyboard for the 'F' numbers

BF2, by a hairpin.

1942's aerial combat just rocked, I mean, gawd...just the fact you can fly a huge massivo Flying Fortress is just amazing, and the ship to ship combat on Wake Island etc. was also cool.

BF2, has the ranks, same amount of 'tards (I swear, they all migrated after it got released) and the awards, but the flying..well..it's way too fast for me.

I'll never forget the 'oomph' the plane engines gave me in 1942..
