...there's a slight problem.

From wot I've heard you peeps over in the US of A use a different voltage system.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domestic_A … Ffrequency

Every other country I've been to in the past uses the same system as the UK so I've never had a problem with using any electrical items I take with me or buy whilst on holiday.

The problem is this:

I want to use/recharge my phone over in the US but don't want to end up frying my charger and/or phone. It's not a travel adapter that I need, is it? The phone I have is a Samsung D900 (it's quadband and unlocked so I'm not worried about it not working on US networks) and the charger is a 3-pin plug like this - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:G_plug.png

So wot is the name of the thing that I need to be searching for on eBay??

i think you should just get some sort of travel adapter yes, you plug in your UK plug, and on the other end there is a USA plug, i think thats all you need...

most of your chargeing cords have a little box on them or its built right into the power supply.
i have a psp an ipod and camera all purchesed in qatar and they work fine here. just look at the cord  box or power supply and see it says ~120~240 volt. adapt to the plug and your good.

That should work.  All you really need to do is look at the label on your charger.  If it supports both the 220V/50Hz and 120V/60Hz it should be listed on the label.

If your just going to use one for the cell then why not just get a phone adapter? You could get one for 10 bucks.
We run 120 volts standard at 50 - 60hrz. We only use 220 for ovens and dryers.

Nope, my charger is a normal one, just like the one everybody gets when they buy a phone. There is no switch at all.

As for suggestions about getting a travel adapter all that does is just allow you to plug a UK charger into the US socket. It DOESN'T convert the voltage. Isn't there anybody here from the UK who's travelled to the US and knows wot I need to use with my charger in the USA?

I've charged my phone in the US perfectly fine with a 50Hz charger. You have nothing to worry about. You just need the 3 pin to 2 pin adapter.

what voltage do your light bulbs run on?

cause changing the frequency a little bit wont hurt your phone, it will just make it charge faster/slower

I live in southern CA and it's a nice place. I also like New York City a lot (though it does scare many people).

What area of the country are you visiting?  There are many great things to do and see, depending on where you will be at.

good luck and have fun, alot of people a very nice here, every city and town has a lot of nice people in them which should make your stay enjoyable where ever you go. be warned though, new jersey isn't the state to go, its the crap at the behind the refrigerator of America.

He doesn't mention a switch man.

You dont need anything, just an adapter for the plug.

I hear they've got this amusement park over in Maryland. I think it's called Baltimore or something...

Baltimore might be an amuzing place, but it's not a park

Definitely check out the Mall in DC (Washington, Lincoln, Vietnam, and WWII memorials, the Capital, and the White House).  Arlington National Cemetary is also an interesting site (the Changing of the Guards at the Tomb of the Unknowns is rather impressive).  Depending on your interests, there should be multiple museums, as parts of the Smithsonian system (natural history, US history, air and space, and a few others).  The Smithsonian museums are some of the best in the country.

And the best part...all of that is within walking distance.  Arlington is a rather long walk, but not unbearable.

Watch your wallet if you take the subway, and don't wander into the non-federal office/tourist area of DC.  The residential parts of DC and the outskirts are not very safe...especially if you do not know the local signs of trouble.  Rest assured, the "touristy" parts of DC are very nice.
