So it's Christmas time and I'm thinking about upgrading my computer since I finally have enough money (Confirmation FTW).  All I would be getting right now is probably a new mobo, cpu, and ram.

Currently running:
amd fx-55
asus a8n-sli premium
2GB corsair xms ddr 400
7900gt/gto

Looking to get:
Mobo:  GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L (P35)

Proc: Core 2 Quad Q6600
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a … 6819115017

RAM: G.Skill 2GB (2 x1GB)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6820231098

So what do you guys think about that?  I'll probably ask for the mobo for christmas and get the CPU and RAM after christmas so I don't have to buy everything.

Stop farting around and take the plunge for 4Gb RAM .

Unless you insist on spending out on the PC2-8500 2Gb sets, generally speaking the lower-average quality 2Gb dual-channel kits are going to become a bit lacking within the next year. If you want a DX10-compatible system (i.e. Windows Vista as a mandatory OS)- then 2Gb RAM gets eaten up like nothing. Worth the investment.

Don't listen to the above, just another human/bot trying to waste your money tbh. All for what? A few extra seconds of time saved? You won't notice much of a difference in normal usage or even games, whatever these "enthusiasts" say. Remember they look at benchmarks that have differences that are really miniscule in real life but it means alot to them for some reason. One thing computer enthusiasts don't know is value for money, it's simply not worth putting in so much extra money for such small improvements.

With the Q6600 and 4gb of mem is awesome....you can assign cores to separate tasks and its own memory space....and being able to rip a DVD whilst burning MP3's at the same time as Playing COD4 or Crysis I don't see as "Such a small Improvement" !

And especially as the price of Ram is rock bottom at the moment the only way it can go is up in price! so get as much as you can afford now!

Yeah I may get 4GB of RAM, but I'm not sure I will have the funds when I am buying my PC, but I will most deffinently upgrade to 4GB very quickly

Don't get a Q6600. If you're buying for christmas, get the new 45nm Quad Cores. Around 250 bucks for a 2.5 GHz AFAIK.
