Looking to build my own computer, and its coming up to ordering parts. Now im prepared to spend a bit of money on the motherboard, up to about 160£. Just some advice needed or recommendations on this subject. Going to be used mainly for college and gaming, going for the 8800GTS 640MB GFX card, and Extreme core2duo proccessor, 4GB RAM. any other information required to help me no problems just ask.

Although since you're going for an Nvidia GPU (which is currently the best option) you may be better off with a 680i board to leave room for SLI.

I wouldn't advise getting an 8800 GTS 640. Get an 8800GT (or GTS 512), they're better. You might not be able to get the exact one you want due to stock shortages, but you'll be able to get one that outperforms any 8800 GTS 640 for cheaper quite easily.

Don't go for an extreme Core2 either, just get a standard core2 one or the Q6600 and overclock it. With a motherboard like ^that^ you should easily be able to overclock it nicely. Just throw a good cooler like the Freezer7 on it too.

You'll save alot of money by not going extreme and getting an 8800GT 512 instead.

If you want a good Dual Core go for the E6750 and overclock it. In terms of playing games and most everyday computer usage, you won't notice a big difference in quad and dual core, but there is a nice difference in price.

Dont get a GTS, there is a new Edition of the GTS' coming out soon, which will be far superior and around the same price, The 8800GT right now are a solid card, great benchmark results, nearly the same as the 8800GTX, but far cheaper, spend your money on one of those, or SLi them.

I heard about the X38 chipset's being more instable with DDR2 RAM, than with DDR3, but then again I know from panzer that his works fine so I dunno, do some research. If that's not the case then it's a good mobo I guess, and about the vid card look at what Surgeons wrote.

I've heard quite the opposite. That it doesn't work very well with DDR3. All the reviews I've read for that board say it's superb - best OCing board ever.
