Do you have all the latest vista updates? Can you try the ram in another computer perhaps?  Have you tried booting with just these two sticks or just one of them?

I have all the updates for all of it. I have swaped the sticks trying different pairs and it boots up fine so the RAM is fine odd...
I dont have another PC to try it with

So, you have a total of 2GB RAM now?
That shouldn't be a problem at all.

Are you the RAM sticks are approved for your motherboard? (the manual should have a little list of recommended RAM).
Although then the BIOS should come whining.

Have you installed the ram hotfix? (No. it doesn't download automatically. you must install it manually). Latest BIOS? Can you try 4gb with different ram? Tried reinstalling Vista with 4GB ram?

I installed vista with 4GB without any problems with my Asus P5E motherboard.
My Nforce motherboard that I had before didn't work so well with 4gb tho. 5 Blue screens while installing Vista. Really bad stability problems. Random reboots. and so on....

I'm pretty sure it's about the amount of sticks instead of memory.
I've got 2x2GB sticks and never had any troubles, but I've heard a lot of people having problems with 4 sticks.

I hope the hotfix works for you!

I had the same issue, Vista wouldn't install with 4GB (64-bit), so I installed with 2GB, installed the hot fix, put in the other 2, and now it works fine

edit: I used 4 1GB sticks btw... cheaper than 2x 2GB

yeah. It's about the number of sticks, not the amount of memory. nforce + Vista + more than 2 sticks of ram = serious ram compatibility problems. Believe me, I have tried.
But thankfully most ppl get it working with the hotfix.
Mine didn't. That's why I bought Intel chipset motherboard.

edit: I hope you get it working. I know how is it like to have that kind of problem. I had it....

Not at all. I run Vista Ultimate x64 and have 4 sticks in there (2x256 + 2x512 totalling to 1.5GB) on an nForce board and have no problems with it.

yeah. give it a try. if it doesn't install, use two sticks for install and then stick the other two in when the install is finished. (before installing any drivers tho). You might also want to read evga support forums and see if someone has found a solution for it. I couldn't get my board working so I hope you have better luck than I had.

and also look at the ram voltages in BIOS. Sometimes you have to give the sticks more voltage when using 4 sticks.

You should install 4 sticks and run memtestx86 from CD to confirm if it's a hardware problem with 4 stick or a vista problem. A lot of boards struggle with 4 stick.

well. actually the memtest doesn't always tell the truth. I could pass the memtests with my nforce board but nothing else was stable. but you can try.
