Getting A Website Noticed

Well I've submitted my website to both Google and Yahoo but Yahoo is the only with it on their search engine yet. I was wondering how I increase the place I come in with the search results ?
My website is www.irish-rallying.info and when you search irish-rallying.info on Yahoo it will come up first but when you search irish-rallying I don't even think its there. Any ideas guys ?

Nice theme, but there is a lot of Under construction and missing files.

And about the search engienes you might want to add some more meta tags to your website
( HTML Meta Tags )

Nuh uh. Not anymore. Meta tags will only work for the tiny search engines. Google, Yahoo and Ask don't notice them. They either find the site or you have to put it in their engine.
Been tried with webStrain.

Other way to get it known is to get a lot of traffic onto it. Most search engines then automatically detect it and put it top of the search group.

There are lots of sites out there that cover this ... search for "Search Engine Optimization". make sure that you have GOOD CONTENT on the site you want to promote.

Besides following the advice on those sites, I've found that purchasing ads on Google Search helped to boost my sites onto the front page of the google keywords I wanted to target.

(By the way, it will take 3-6 months to get your site up on the front page of results)

Yeah the site is still under work and the homepage looks good thanks to theeternalpessimist.
I'll get to work now and see what I can do.
Would a domain name change make any difference because irish-rallying is used by a lot of websites so I was think of something along the lines of "theirishrallyingforum"

I have it in all the signatures of every message board I use because I heard Google gives you more revelance if it finds a good few links to your website on other websites. Is that true ?

Took webStrain about a week. Without ads and SEO optimisation.

But I guess that was calculated on the traffic it received.

Don't buy some crap SEO optimisation. It costs a lot of money and is not worth it. You must optimise it yourself with ads.
Go for ads on your site with GoogleAdsense and then advertise your site with adbrite.com

No. It can take much more if you don't do it right.

Also, try and have brief explanations on your site, exclamation marks and eay to register words. Such as Rally info and crap like that. If you don't, the less likelyhood it is for Google to detect you.

First, do not buy SEO optimization (sorry if I was unclear about that).

Second, Zim ... you got a site on the front page of a Google search for keywords within a week of launch???? Ummm ... wow. Either you are a hacker, a genius, or your keywords aren't very competitive ... it takes more than a week for Google to even recognize a site, much less put it on the front page for competitive keywords.

Edit: you sure about webstrain on the front page of google? I typed in a simple "Web Strain" and that site is no where to be found. What key words are you targeting?

Haha. Oh no, I got competition alright. iGoogle, MyYahoo, MyAol etc etc.
Just need to brief and smart with your site and explanations. Make it easy to navigate around and play around with keywords on it.
But as I said, traffic is involved a lot in getting a site up. I got a lot of it in the first few weeks.
Also, it helps if your website name is unique.

edit - and I know that its not up completely. That is because I haven't bothered buying ads yet. They classify your site much better.
Type in webstrain and you should get it. Otherwise, I'm not sure.
The likelyhood is that it will take another few weeks to get it up there. But its the same with most sites which have a complicated explanation. It is hard to get them up there if you are not clear enough.

When I said 3-6 months, I'm not talking about being indexed by Google - indeed, that can happen in a week. I'm talking about having your site on the front page of search results when someone types in targeted keywords.

I use google and yahoo advertising ... make sure that you advertise ONLY on the search engines and not on the partner sites.
