Probably the Cold War.
Or as some_random_panda said the internet.

I voted WW2, but I gues it was WW1. Since it caused all of the following.
I'd say WW2 but 9/11 and the war on terror is goign to take some nasty turns if we get to invade Iran
inane little opines
I think we wouldn't have the Internet yet if it wasn't for the tech advancements all the XXth century wars produced, specially WW2.ThomasMorgan wrote:

Now, when I first saw the thread title I was going to answer Star Wars: Episode 4 - however, now for a sensible answer.
What episode in the last 100 yrs had the greatest impact on the World?
Wwi 0% 0% - 0
The October Revolution (USSR) 10% 10% - 1
Treaty of Versailles 10% 10% - 1
Great Depression 0% 0% - 0
Wwii 50% 50% - 5
The Creation of Israel 0% 0% - 0
The Cold War 20% 20% - 2
The Vietnam War 0% 0% - 0
9/11 and the War on Terror 0% 0% - 0
Other 10% 10% - 1
WW1
Fair enough, brought home the impact of modern warfare and the destruction it could cause and the death totals were huge.
October Revolution
This is colossal as it brought about a (debatable) end to WW1 sooner than would've done - and possibly, not by design however, an Allied victory. Russians absent from the ToV, a good thing as if the Allies had won with Russia still in the war (I'd say not - debatable) they'd have demanded so much and wouldn't have laid off like Britain and America did (to a lesser extent, France - they took their own action to get what they wanted). It also created a strong oppositon for the Nazis in WW2 and led to their defeat. It brought about one of the two key nations of the Cold War. It helped bring about Korea (Chinese and Korean followed in Communistic footsteps, even though East-Asian Communism was different to Soviet Communism) and Vietnam war. They even helped cultivate hatred of superpowers in the Middle-East - Afgahnistan etc (although, to be fair, the British had done a pretty good job of that themselves) - and so could be said to have a hand in terrorism. And it continues to have repercussions to this day as it has changed American foreign policy and has formed the Russia of today with huge influence.
That is why I voted for this.
EDIT: As Surge pointed out above, this led to the Cold War and technological advancements, such as the internet which we all hold so dear.
Treaty of Versailles
Led to fragile German and conditions for Hitler and the Nazis. 'nuff said.
Great Depression
Bound to happen, may again sometime soon. Didn't have such drastic consequences in the end - WW2 picked the USA right back up.
WW2
See above, Russia - led to atomic-bomb and further hostilities of USA and USSR.
Creation of Israel
Friction between West and Middle-East, to this day. Showed a hurried solution to a problem which has never worked and possibly never will.
The Cold War
See above - just heightened the situation, nothing spectacular.
The Vietnam War
" - and showed America's crap foreign policy and stubbornness, futile in the end.
9/11 and War on Terror
See above - we're yet to see the full repercussions of this.
Other
Could be anything.

Seeing as WWI pretty much started that long chain of events...

WWII for sure: the very first time weapons of mass destruction were applied, since then the terror of nukes is only rising, every country has a couple of nukes, even Belgium has some it's ridiculous .
I'd say it's the whole era of dictators. This includes Hitler, Mussolini and Stalin... And a couple of other guys that I won't name right now. It's hard to believe that it was only about 50 years ago, and shows how easily things can turn around in a dire situation. I think it's made us reconsider the way politics work in our respective countries, and will keep it from happening again in the near future. Also, it was very detrimental to all the countries' economies, and has had long lasting effects.
So, I'm not sure if this goes into WWI, because I think it's much larger than that.

The influence of WW1 is dramatic. Certainly its outcome paved the way for WW2. The diplomatic and political strivings of the victorious nations at the end of WW1 had a massive effect on the creation of nations which are at the heart of political issues today.TheDarkRaven wrote:

Indeed I would group the October Revolution into WW1 because it was as a direct result of Germany allowing Lenin to return to Russia at the right time, that the uprising took place. That shaped the Communist Russia which was to play such an integral part to the latter half of the 20th Century. It was on the bedrock of this Communist movement that Stalinism was born. Similarly the depression in Germany was equally attributed to the economic impact of WW1.
You seem to forget the entire socio-political background to WW1 preferring, like most people who haven't read into the subject, to focus on the war as just 'war'. WW1 is far more influencial in shaping todays world than most people think. They seem to forget it in favour of events like the Cold War and WW2, certainly this is not a misconception, but rather because of the advert of the newsreal and a more influencial media.
WWI
It made the communists exist, made America rich, made Europe poorer than the US, created the Nazi party etc etc...

Definitly the Internet or satellite communication would have my vote, but their arnt really an " episode " so to speak, they are a technological advancement, and as sergeriver said we might not have these certain technologies or possible have free access to them at least if it wasnt for some specific events ie: the "episode"
Geez there are so many good ones to choose from.. im like a kid in an icecream shop ! i dunno. i picked -other- but i realised i think i was wrong ?? Ill say the great depression it was a major cause and snowball to a whole lot of shit.

I must apologise - I didn't intend to convey misconception of WW1, I just feel that the October Revolution was more influential in shaping the events of the finalé of WW1 and the events to follow. And indeed, I just had to complete coursework on socio-political effects of WW1 (sadly only on women in Britain rather than at a broader aspect) - and I know it brought some radical changes whilst some things gained by people in WW1 were lost in the aftermath. Sure, WW1 changed a lot of things - but many of them changed right back at its conclusion.nighthawk843 wrote:

I would not group the October Revolution with WW1 as although there may have been unrest in all of countries at war only Russia actually had any radical political change - it had different circumstances (okay, Germany did at the end of the war - but that's because they were being destroyed and the Kaiser had fowled the situation). Thus, I can't say this can be attributed to WW1 and list it as a separate and more important event.
Internet, WWII, and October Revolution/Cold War are pretty much all even.
Without the internet, none of you would have met me!some_random_panda wrote:

Nukes.
WW1, WW2 was just a continuation of hostilities.
WW2, the cold war, and all the troubles in the Mid-East can be traced back to the Treaty of Versailles
you couldnt have had any of these events without ww1 occurring. thats a lot of impact.
I was born
I think it was the series finale of MASH
