so i was bored today and got to looking at laptops for college next year, primarily dell, ASUS, and apple (mostly just for price comparison, i dislike apples and their way of doing things).

anyways, for bang for the buck asus seems to be the best company out there. does anybody know of any companies that are economically competitive with asus?

I've heard good things about Gateway laptops.  A friend of got mine for school about a year ago, and then another friend did too (on original friends suggestion).  As far as I know, they haven't encountered any problems with them so far.  But they don't use them for anything more taxing than using the internet and Microsoft Office applications.  I don't have any personal experience with these laptops, but my friends seem to like them, so you might want to check it out.  Good luck!

well mine was about £900 after 25% off, so I guess thats not too economical, but its kick ass for gaming and photoshopping.

I'm looking at asus too, but the only place I can find them is at newegg.  I've been browsing sony and toshibas at Fry's though, they're a decent deal too.

Thing is, in terms of drivers, Vista is still superior to XP, since it actually goes and finds them for you...
