One of the biggest problems with playing against A.I., and the biggest excitement of playing against Humans, is the ability of your enemies to think and learn, and adjust their strategies accordingly. There are loads of games (console mainly) that I love to go back and play over and over again because they're so much fun, but sometimes it just gets old. In some cases there are boss battles where you just whittle away his health by using the same exact tactic over and over again.

Wouldn't it be great if sometime in the near future, true A.I. was developed? A.I. that could learn and change its tactics, to make the game even more challenging. Don't get me wrong, playing against humans is great, but sometimes it gets old, too. A.I. doesn't whine and bitch and moan every time they die, A.I. doesn't accuse you of hacking every 10 seconds, and in some cases, mediocre A.I. is still much smarter than human players who do the dumbest moves consistently.

Do you think it's possible that this kind of A.I. can be developed? How soon? Or will we have to wait another lifetime before that kind of technology is achieved?

What about a game where A.I. players were positioned differently and attack/patrol patterns were altered with every attempt at the mission/level?

I would love to play a game that is constantly changing and forces the player to think and adjust his own strategy due to the adjustment of the enemy's. In fact, A.I. might even be more challenging than humans in some cases since the A.I. could work as an efficient team without any rogue players trying to do their own thing, despite the fact that the player has been using the same specific strategy over and over (take BF2 for example: team A constantly goes for a particular flag first in every round, and team B knows this, but can't function properly as a team because too many lone wolves and rogue players do not follow orders and cost the team loss after loss).

Well obviously the A.I. wouldn't be programmed to use shit tactics like those, but instead would think for themselves and coordinate as a team and learn from their mistakes.

there has been ai that can learn for quite a while already they just havnt honed it as of yet and they still are to stupid to implement a new strategy or are fixed in a certain pattern of play.

It's called an artificial neural network or ANN for short. No home computers can actually use it because its so resource demanding + it normally requires its very own OS. Although it's been implemented in a few games, it's been heavily modified and isn't even that impressive because it's been downsized so much for it to actually work without killing your computer and your family.
