I've been looking to buy a new computer, so far I have

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 3.0GHz
BIOSTAR TForce TF570SLI Motherboard
LOGYSIS 575w Power Supply
WINTEC AMPX 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) x4
XFX GeForce 8800 GTS XXX 320Mb
Some Cooler Master Case

All for about $700

I have an extra PATA HDD and DVD-burner lying around as well as a copy of XP Pro x64

I only have about $800 to spend right now. How will this computer play bf2 and cod4?

Anything else I should look into? All the hardware can be found off newegg except the 8800 which is on TigerDirect.

Get the 8800GT over the GTS, unless the GTS is cheaper. And a little more PSU power is recommended.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. Get a 650W to a 700W PSU otherwise that should play both those games on full high no bother. I play those games on my computer and I only have an X1950PRO.

They recommend a 450 Watt PSU for an 8800GT. So I think 575 Watt for a GTS will do fine

That game will run both BF2 and COD4 maxed out, no probs!

You mean you compaired clock speeds? a 3.0Ghz Intel CPU is faster than a 3.0Ghz AMD chip. An Intel E6750 or a Q6600 are the two chips I reccomend to everyone at the moment.

PCI-E 2.0 = PCI-E 16x? NO it's not the same, only the slots are the same. 2.0 supports higher data speeds.

I looked here: http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu_2007.html and used the 3DMark06 CPU test. I know it's not perfect but it gives a ballpark range.

Where do you see it $10 more? It's on newegg at $189 and thats +$30 over the 6000+. I'll look into that though.

Yea did you forget the extra money you waste to get those kind of clock speeds. Try to get the new Phenom 9500. It has a substantial abount of cache over a 6000+ and for 240$ its at a great price.

240$

For 80$ more it is a great buy considering the fact that it has been out on the market for less than 2months. Always do research before you buy.

Like Eternal said, get the E6750, it's hardly much more, but definitely beats a 6000+.
Also, I'd suggest a different videocard. 8800 GT is good, but a lot of money if you're on a budget. Radeon X1950 Pro is a good budget card, and I found a Radeon HD 3850 512 MB for $200 which performs pretty well (just google it and read some articles and look at their tests).
