And yes those motherboards you described are common, but I don't think they're worth it. You could get an extra video card that's crap and put it in there, but I don't think it'll improve performance much.
Hmm February 2008 is sooner than I expected (I haven't been keeping track of nVidia). I guess you could make the wait. But personally I can't; like I said before, I reaaaaaaalllllllllyyyyy want this computer

ok an update to everything so far, I stuck with the 6000+ and the cheap ps, got different RAM, mobo, vid card, and case.

After shipping and everything, it comes out to $670ish
Quick question about overclocked cards. A lot of brands sell their cards for $20-$30 extra because they are overclocked. Can't you just buy a stock card and overclock it yourself? Or is there more to it? I would rather do the minute overclocking they do at home then spend the extra money.

That's a good list you got there. All except the processor. You should've just spent the few extra bucks to get a much better C2D. Other than that things look great. Glad to see you went with the 8800 GT 512. Power supply is a bit worrisome, though. I don't know how much overclocking you're going to be able to do with it, but it should last you a while.
I don't know how it is with nVidia cards, but ATi has a Catalyst Control Center, where you can simply open up a little slider to adjust the clock speed. It's very simple and easy. Make sure your case has good cooling and nice airflow. You don't want your card to overheat too much and then burn out. And don't overclock it too much if you want this system to last you a while, overclocked cards don't last as long if they're pushed too far.
Overall it's a great buy!

Dual Nvidia 8800GTX is the way to go.
My new system will have the E6850 Very pretty and expensive.
Adding links to the parts and where your going to purchase them from also helps

Anyone have any experience with MSI or EliteGroup motherboards?
If you have already bought it then fair enough, but honestly, anyone here will tell u the C2D is FAR better :\ For gaming anyway.aimless wrote:

It beats a 6000 and a 9500 at stock, 500-750Mhz OCs you can do at no extra cost on the stock cooler, 1Ghz+ you can do on a $60 cooler.The#1Spot wrote:
Yea did you forget the extra money you waste to get those kind of clock speeds. Try to get the new Phenom 9500. It has a substantial abount of cache over a 6000+ and for 240$ its at a great price.TheEternalPessimist wrote:
E6750 then, $10 more, beats a 6000+ at stock and OCs by well over 1Ghz easily.aimless wrote:
Yes, for gaming.
I know the Q6600 rapes, and for $279.99 it better rape, but that's too expensive for me.
phenom 9500 2.2ghz 6000+ 3.0ghz
L1 512kb L1 256kb
L2 2mb L2 2mb
L3 2mb dual core
quad core 160$
240$
For 80$ more it is a great buy considering the fact that it has been out on the market for less than 2months. Always do research before you buy.
AMD just doesn't match up anymore for gaming, they're a long way behind (this coming from a self confessed ex-AMD fanboy).
EDIT: Actually it might not beat a 9500+, haven't check the benches, but it shits on it's face for price, you may as well get a Q6600 for that cost, which would grind a 9500+ into the floor.
Shame, you could have done a lot better at very little extra costaimless wrote:

Hey hey, I haven't bought it yet! You guys are making some serious arguments about the E6750. I'll keep researching. The Q6600 is a little pricey for now, but I could upgrade later.
Elitegroup, MSI motherboards...any good?

E6750 is nice. overclocks very well too. I personally don't like MSI motherboards. EVGA/ASUS/GIGABYTE are good.
I vote Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R for that price range
edit: and Corsair 520HX Power Supply + 8800GT/HD 3870

if you're on a budget they're stable and last a decent ammount of time, they lack features sometimes for OCing and they aren't the best in other areas but they're not 'bad'. I'd go with Asus personally.aimless wrote:

Of those I'd go with the Gigabyte, heard very little bad about them, not used them personally though.
EDIT: Take a look at the Asus P5K.

Here's what I have so far:
http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/wis … er=5070545
Trying to keep under $700 and I think I succeeded
I might go with the XFX 8800GT instead of the EVGA one, its -$20 !!

Looks a lot better, that PSU is my only worry but, I can't find anything I'd buy for under $100 so I guess you're stuck with it
EDIT: It's a lot more but, it's less likely to fuck up your system.

I would stay away from P5K. People are having lots of troubles with it. And you can get DS3R for $99TheEternalPessimist wrote:

edit: and please STAY AWAY from that cheap PSU. The last thing you want is cheap PSU blowing up your rig.... and you can get cheaper ram too. 4GB costs only few bucks more after rebaits.

Hopefully, it will last a few months and then I will have saved enough money to buy a solid 600w one.TheEternalPessimist wrote:
