The regulations that are in place have existed for long enough that they're nothing new and I'm not aware of any new laws being proposed on the subject.  I agree with your point that there is technology available to block things and/or the channel can be easily switched.  It’s not always that easy, though, as I’m sure you know if you have kids.
Fair enough, fair enough.  I get irritated when the government passes laws with the "think of the children!!" justification.  New York passed a law saying it was a felony to sell an M rated game to someone under 17.  While I think that kids under 17 should get games from their parents, and their parents should know what the game is, it's not the governments place to step in.  After all, it's not a crime to sell tickets for a rate R movie to a kid who is under 17, but if the MPAA finds out, your theater is screwed.
A felony for selling a video is far too extreme, can't believe that one passed.

Blaiming christianity for sexophobia (?) would be pretty strange, imho. You see, our women are allowed to show their skin, whilst not all muslim women are.

I was also shocked.  I don't know if it has held up though...

That is merely suggestive behavior, not showing sex.  The only skin that is taboo to show are women's nipples and penises.

To me, suggestive behavior is a part of sexuality (and also very often frowned upon!). It's like... well, refueling is also a part of driving a car!

Genitals and (for women) breasts. And that's not only a taboo, but rather incident behaviour.
Yet, beating someone else up or even killing him will be punished way harder anyway.

Here in Denmark, we frequently have full frontal nudity on newspaper flyers in the streets, and porn mags fully exposed in stores, frequently in reach of children. It doesn't really seem to hurt anyone too badly.

That's because Denmark is pretty cool on most social things.  Granted, you definitely are going to have to do something about the cultural conflicts between your people and the Islamic immigrants.   That's going to remain a very testy situation I'd imagine, especially when you consider how conservative Muslims often are about nudity.

It's not really nudity and Danish culture in general causing problems. The Muhammad caricature thing wasn't big at all before a group of radical islamists decided to tour the Middle East with some fabricated images and a bunch of lies about how Danish people treat immigrants. Of course we're having none of that after letting so many refugees in during the '90s and spending a fuckton integrating them all.

The antipathy is mostly down to a huge problem with immigrant gang violence, which is reaching levels where more than half of inmates are first or second generation immigrants that make up less than 6% of the population, and these islamist lies about our society. Most muslims in Denmark are happy where they are, and happy with the country.

Ack, offtopic. Sorry.

TBH I think the climate has a lot to do with it :cold-->people get "closer", and Europeans see sexuality as something more free I guess, here at school we don't get Sex-ed we just know the stuff from our parents...

We were comparing to Europe, not the Middle East. Muslim culture is another thing altogether, where sexuality is really suppressed.

America has very suggestive media.  That is not a problem for most people here, since it isn't showing "anything bad".  Americans take exception to showing the act of sex and full nudity.

I think he is implying that in countries where the climate is colder, people "get closer" so sex isn't a big deal.  That argument doesn't hold any water.

Yeah, it's fucked up. Especially in the USA. Like, GTA for example. Before the "Hot Coffee" exploit was found, it was given an M rating. Then they found bits of sexuality so it was given an AO rating. I mean for fuck sake. You can slaughter people with a chainsaw and blow off heads with a rifle, and they'll give it an M rating. But as soon as some sex is found, no way. That's too bad. Give it an AO rating. Can't you just say 18+ from the beginning and call it a day? It's absurd.

No shit you have shootings all the time if you think extreme violence and killing is more acceptable than sex. It's the total opposite infact.

However, both are natural aspects of life. Deal with it.

I know what he meant. I was just wondering how the hell he reached that conclusion. Canada is cold too, as are parts of the USA.

KEIOS, the issue with Lewinksy was really that Clinton was caught lying to the press and public. He lost everybody's trust. I think had he owned up to having an affiar straight-up he probably would have retained office.

Perjury (lying to a grand jury) was the issue, not a blowjob.  Slick Willy ... wow, that nickname applies in more ways than one.

He wasn't booted out. He served his two terms. He was, however, impeached...it just didn't result in throwing the bum out.

As to the OP: America is just more conservative than Europe. That's it. Very simple. That, and the fact that via our cable system, we have access to all the boobies, bush, and other nakedness you would ever want to see.

America = run by and media'd by prudes.

Europe = far more liberal about sex, but extremely intolerant of violence due to our strange habit of having wars in France every so often.

I tried watching the greatest film of all time, National Lampoon's Animal House, last night on an American movie channel. It was so thoroughly cut that it ruined it completely.

I laugh when I hear of these enormous scandals in the US from issues such as the Super Bowl gaffe a few years ago. I don't particularly see how these things become so immensely problematic. Then again, even in Canada we have some censorship, but it takes more the form of forced national programs (35% of radio or television must be Canadian).

Hey! Canada may be cold, but Vancouver is a warm place. And very liberal. Admittedly, we are having a very cold winter this year, and actually getting snow occasionally (of a few inches), compared to the slush which is the very worst a normal winter may bring us, but the -5 Celsius temperature yesterday nearly killed me. Say what you will about my weakness to winter, but soon enough we'll have our annual palm tree and flower count.
