I'm in the exact same position. First of all you need to ask yourself how many years you are prepared to study/university for a new profession. of course it depends on how old you are. If you passed 40 it's not likely you'll spend 7-10 years studying for surgeon or some thing. Be realistic!
Then you sit down and list all the things in life that you like. And i mean everything! All from ice cream to sunsets. These things will give you a clue to what to aim for.
When you find out what profession you like, try and find out as much as possible about it. Visit a company, talk to people working with it or even better try to get a practicality/study employment for some time.
Then go for it! And be sure to have support from your relatives and friends. Because you'll need it.
