ok, I have this discussion thing in class, and I feel like owning everyone.

The deal is, I am supposed to represent Norwegian-Americans, and try to convince the audience why we should get 10mill USD for being a good a possibly abused minority.

Naturally, Mexicans will be the toughest opponent. Jews will probably be hard as well.

I need some good arguments. Some dirt.

This is a pretty stupid thread meant to get people banned.

So with that, I'll submit my answer.

I don't hate Mexicans. I do hate Mexicans who purposefully exploit the gracious and overtaxed American tax payer. But for that matter, I also hate any foreign national who likewise robs me and my fellow tax paying citizens and degrades what makes our nation strong - the legal immigrants who come to this country.

That is easy. Just look at the crimal lack of publicity your cause has gotten. The cooperate/media empires are conspiring to keep the plight of your situation unknown as Americans callously subvert, distort, and destroy your culture and way of life! SOMETHING MUST BE DONE! Contact your Congressman! Tell them you will not put up with the blatent prejudice against the noble _______________-American people.

Of course, one could argue it is more likely for a Norwegian to know English than an American to know Spanish.

Another possible tangent could be arguing the US has already programs in place to make it easier for Latin immigrants (dual-labeled products etc). For instance, how many times do you call the help line an hear "Press one for English, Para Espanol marque Dos". What number do you hit for Norwegian?

You're going to have a very rough time BTW.

Mostly, it is unsubstantiated fear mixed with prejudice.

Let's take a case that happened in Herndon, VA in the county of Fairfax about 1-2 years ago. This is in a suburb of Washington DC. The town of Herndon decided that they were going to erect a pick-up point for day laborers, and everyone around here knows that this means "Mexicans", most of whom are illegal immigrants.

A HUGE protest erupted over this issue ... picketing ... politicking ... cries of "They are taking away our jobs!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

But ...

but ...

This is in Fairfax. Fairfax is the wealthiest county in the United States, and arguably one of the wealthiest places in the world. Fairfax has the highest proportion of college degrees in the United States ... and the highest proportion of graduate degrees in the United States. These wealthy, highly educated individuals are actually concerned about an uneducated, barely-able-to-speak-the-English-language individual taking their job?????

They are no threat, and there are thousands of vacancies for unskilled labor in the Washington Metro area.

And, actually, most of these people I know are hard working and very nice people.

Americans are anti-Mexican right now because the economy is doing poorly. You saw a few people complaining during the huge growth of the 90's but for the most part people had jobs and were secure in those jobs. We are so fickle that we need a scapegoat for a downturn that is generally part of a cyclical economy and a little overdue.

Apart from them snow countries, they all like each other. I think there's a collective hating of Great Britain and America on mainland Europe, and everyone in Scotland's hates everyone, as well as other Scots, and the sea.
