The Bends is TOTALLY an alt. rock album! Most of radiohead's stuff is not, but that album most certainly is.Zimmer wrote:
He wont like Radiohead if he has listed those bands he is buying. Unless he likes every single type of music. I wouldn't call The Bends by Radiohead extremely classic or normal rock.DonFck wrote:
I'm currently listening to, and hence recommending from the classic rock/rock/pop rock-genres (oldies and 90's included):
The Bends - Radiohead
Sound of White Noise - Anthrax (really, it's a good album. lol. And it's rock, kinda )
Deadwing - Porcupine Tree
Who's Next - The Who
First Impressions of Earth - The Strokes
Above - Mad Season
..to name a few.
Hope I mentioned one or two that you don't have yet

Second of all, NHL '04 (or something) or NFSU? It must be..
I do know that he made an album back in the day called "Balls to Picasso". No Sir, it didn't go well with me. Which is a shame, actually.Zimmer wrote:

Preferably older tunes.
Also, +1 for The Pixies, and Radiohead's older rock albums. Definite must-haves to any collection.

To be completely honest, all of Pearl Jams albums are absoulutely excellent. They are really awesome. And if you like them, then think of The Screaming Trees and the Black Keys.

The National are an awesome band indeed!
I saw them live in Vienna a few years ago and didn't know a thing from them.
So I listened to a few songs before and found that they sounded a bit tame.
Then I saw them playing live and they blasted away.
BTW:
They're on the same label as Biffy Clyro.
Let out a bit of your metal side:
Amon Amarth:
Fate of Norns
Versus the World
With Oden on Our Side
Megadeth:
Killing Is my Buisness and Buisness is Good
Peace Sells But Whos Buying?
Rust In Peace
So Far So Good So What?
Countdown to Extenction
Youthanasia
Risk
The System has Failed
United Abominations
Pantera:
All Albums are good
Metallica:
Anything before the Black Album

No. Slayer, they may be good bands ( I know, I listen to some of them ) but they are not his style. If he wants rock, then give him rock.
no fun. well actually Megadeth and Pantera are considered hard rock in some cases coupled with the fact that he said rock i believe i was correct in stating those.Zimmer wrote:

No way. Pantera is quite definitely not hard rock. If you like them, try Trivium, Slayer.
pfffff trivium sucksZimmer wrote:

please stay away from anything that can be sorted as metal or grunge.
if you want something to bang your head to, spend your money on MC5's debut "Kick out the jams".
if you want something to upgrade your wardrobe to, buy The Who's debut "My generation".
if you want something to move your heart, get "I never loved a man the way I love you", as sung by Aretha Franklin.
if you want something from the best rock'n'roll band ever, get a copy of "Beggars banquet" by The Rolling Stones.
if you want some perfect indie pop, I highly recommend the eponymous debut album by The Stone Roses.
if you want some punk, any early record (pre 1978) with The Ramones or The Clash will do.
if you want some drug infused schizophrenia, listen to The Beatles "White album".
If you use to say that your taste in music cant be categorized, give Primal Screams "Screamadelica" a few hours of your life.
and above all, any record collection wouldn't be complete without The Velvet Undergrounds banana LP and a singles collection by Diana Ross & The Supremes.
that's the cornerstones of my taste in music, minus a few Swedish bands you never heard of. but try a few songs from the Swedish duo The Tough Alliance of you think the music I mentioned above is too mainstream.

And if you don't want to use drugs but want the same effect, get "Tales from the Punchbowl" by Primus.

Blackbird - Alter Bridge
I just downloaded several artists from the ones that were suggested, just to give you a second opinion.
Well, you must get The National. They are absolutely excellent. I have to buy them as well, it seems that there is no decent quality download.
The Smiths are not very good. Poor actual music, their singing is average.
The Blur are quite nice to listen to, but I wouldn't call them rock, by any means.
I hope that helps you.

And ouch... you just called the band that originated alternative rock "not very good"...
And yes, Blur are Britpop... but still rock, too - although they cover a wide range, I'll give you that (how could you not have heard of them!?!?!?).
