I just got done nuking a trojan and some malware shit off my computer, but for some odd reason, my desktop background got reset, its just blue now, and it wont let me set it to anything.

I did go into the big list of startup processes and messed with the trojans entries (with Sysinternals) so I could delete the trojan, but I didn't change anything else. I'm 99% sure all of the virus crap is quarantined.

I also use the Alienware GUISE, if that would affect anything.

Help?

EDIT: Yes, Ive already tried restarting

EDIT 2: I can see it for a brief moment when logging in, but then when the icons load it goes back to the blue

Why not just re-apply the background?

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Try changing windows themes to Windows Classic or Windows XP/Vista. Then change from there.

Control Panel > Display > Themes

Can you change the wallpaper to any of the ones listed there?

Negative. Ive tried getting around it by applying the background though paint, etc but it doesnt work

EDIT: This is probably really stupid, but, is there a directory that the desktop wallpaper is stored? Basically, is there a folder I could go into to manually drop a picture into?

My background is just blue as well.
And I'm still alive and on teh internets.

Maybe you should just let it be...

I'm guessing you've already tried right-clicking on any picture and choosing wallpaper from there? Is Active Desktop off?

A quick google search came up with this page from Microsoft

Now that I'm reading it, it sounds exactly like your problem.

Theres also this Wallpaper Hijack Remover 3.0.4 software.
