This article is about replacing the guns used by armed response units wth tazers, not giving a tazer to every cop on the beat.
Tasers are a good alternative to guns. I think air ones are often a better tool for defense than an actual gun.
Correct me if I'm wrong but is this not a very good thing?? I'm not exactly too chuffed to think that when I'm in Derry or Belfast the scummy NI police are packing firearms - tasers, fine by me.usmarine2005 wrote:
Seems they are so bad and horrible, that countries would never decide to use them.
Oh....
"Taser stun guns will be used by officers of the Northern Ireland Police Service from early next year."

Tasers vs Light Machine Guns or Pistols...
hmmm.... I prefer taser incidents to unjustified deaths.

Hey! I got a good question for all y'alls!
Since the use of the tazer weapon is often reported when there's been a misuse or questionable use of it on someone, and since it's always considered cruel and unjustified pain...(it's not, but whatever)(yes, i've been at the end of a stun gun and it looks worse than it is) IS TASING SOMEONE THE SAME AS TORTURE?
In other words, much like electrocution, waterboarding, sleep deprivation, beatings, etc...is the use of stun gun considered torture? And if so, should it be a tool used by police to incapacitate people who don't listen to their commands?

So do think using a taser is considered torture or no?
Nope, not a torture at all.IRONCHEF wrote:

@ Jenspm. Yup, follow the rule, shut your good damn mouth, and you wont give em chance to use the taser. Dont commit crime if you cant pay the fine.
What if you don't get your license out as fast as one wants you to, or are walking along the side of the road during willy-nilly riot outskirts suppression?usmarine2005 wrote:
Well guess what. No tasers equal no taser incidents. Tasers will equal taser incidents.Spark wrote:
I have no problem with tasers and what I've seen here suggests the same.
What I DO have a problem with is the circumstances in which they are used.
Get over it. People are human. Cops are put in high stress and unpredictable positions. I have never been tasered by a cop. You want to know why? I follow the law and obey a cops commands.

Not torture at all? So getting voltage through your body is not cruel or unusual punishment, regardless of context?Roger Lesboules wrote:

What is the big difference between having your nipples, ear lobes, and genitals clamped and the wattage turned up and having two hooks dug into your skin and given voltage? Clamp placement? Amperages? But yet one is torture the other isn't?
Waterboarding: held in a declined position while water is poured over your head and face causing you fear of drowning. That seems less like torture than having voltage run through your body, falling to the ground convulsing.
I want a tazer. They look so much fun, and should be incredibly useful for such things as queues in fast food places, slow people in malls, door-to-door salesmen, small children, and other annoyances.
Oh, and 'torture' generally meant extended torment. A simple tazer is one shock and you're down. It can be USED to torture if used repeatedly, but that's more an issue with the wielder and American cops being trigger-happy.
