I did it this afternoon, but I'm having second thoughts.  Now I have to keep clean (prevent myself from looking up torrents and the occasional porn site).  It'll be just like being at school.  The Man will be watching me for 3 months.

Would you do it?  What do you think I should do?

I have a pirated copy of Vista Ultimate and Office 2007... sooo... I dunno. For me, it would be hell. They'd arrest me after like 2 days for pirating.

No downloading? No porn?

Blasphemy. That is madness.

Just get a second partition/harddisk/computer that's not in the program, download all your goodies on there, and copy it to your watched PC. Nothing's stopping you from looking at porn. In fact, it would be mildly funny, knowing that some guy is being forced to watch porn with you.

Although, when vista asks "replace SupremeCommander.exe with this smaller version of SupremeCommander.exe?" I'm pretty sure they'll know what you're doing.

Second partition won't work, unless you make it a separate boot entirely. As long as you're using the same processor and memory to go through your files, and the spyware is running, they'll know what you're doing. So, if you make a separate boot sequence on your computer, they shouldn't be able to monitor you. Only problem is that it slows your computer down a lot.

Does it say no porn specifically? I'd think that they wouldn't be looking at your every action around the clock.

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

My pirated Vista Ultimate works 100%, even windows update and all.

Say, if there is someone watching every single website you browse...can you say Goatse, tubgirl, lemonparty etc.?

Apparently they dont say anything about monitoring your downloads and pr0n. As its not in their privacy statement they cant penalize you for torrents and porn.

It's for US only anyway.

And why would you get Vista this way? There are other ways to avoid getting spyware...

Nah, but I figure streaming sites such as....wait, I won't disclose it in bf2s public....would count as copyright infringement or something like that.

Interesting, I was under the impression that it was sort of a Microsoft-branded spyware program.  What exactly does that legal jargon say?

Edit: Nvm, simpler to read than I thought.

I think they'll just check the logs of what you've done, and what applications you've run. I doubt that includes what websites you've browsed unless you get an error while browsing it. They won't react to porn sites, they might do so with torrents, who knows. They will definitely see if you have a torrent application open - except, if you rename it, you might be ok

Yeah, thanks.  I might do that.  I don't really download many torrents at all, and even less now.  Maybe for the odd full version of EVEREST or some tech stuff that I wouldn't want to pay for, but nothing else.  I'll be careful.

A couple hours ago it said something like: "If you choose to participate in both the survey and automated feedback program, you can choose one of the following products."  Vista Ultimate was on there, along with Word 2007 Ultimate and several other products.  Maybe they removed it?  Being quick ftw.

Its not like M$ doesnt already spy on everyone and other third parties do as well. Whats there to lose. What are they going to do? Arrest me for torrenting the occasional movie? Pfft.

For me personally, no thanks.  I don't like Vista enough to reinstall it.

Technical issues aside, Vista's DRM is a major moral stumbling point for me.  Assuming I'm guilty from the start does not jive, so the 3 month thing is just insult on top of injury.  I could see setting this up on a spare PC if you REALLY need a license for one of those apps.   You'd be a sell out in my eyes, but hey, you asked.

The only reason to even consider getting Vista is for Direct 10.
