Okay, so with the release of FH2 coming up, I have to reinstall Bf2.
Problem is, I don't have disc one. I have disc 2, disc 3 and my SF discs. See, my house was broken into and my cd drives ripped out of my computer. The bf2 play disc was in the drive when it was stolen.
I have the box, the manual, the cd key... everything.
No way in HELL do i want to buy a new game just for one stolen disc.

I have a question...
Can I download the disc 1 image, use that for the first part of installation, continue with my real discs all the way through SF, then use the SF disc (a legitimate one) to play?

Has anyone done this before?

Also, a side question: How well will bf2 run if installed on a 7200 rpm External Hard Drive that connects with USB 2.0?

Karma for answers, and again, this is not a piracy issue. I have my own, legit, cd key.

Should not be a problem.

edit:
Get a mini image for BF2, so you don't have to constantly keep getting the CD. That way you can mount it with daemon tools, and play your legitimate version online with possible less lag. *I think
The reason the disc doesn't matter is because they only check for your CD Key online...

It would work with the whole image thing, it'd be like having a different CD-drive with the disk. If you intend to run BF2 off a USB external hard drive, it'll be slow since yhey work in burst mode. Loading times would be very, very long, especially for a hard drive intensive game like BF2.

and that was supposed to say "installing bf2."

the "s" was out of force of habit.

There's just a simple CD check when BF2 is run. Since CD drives are many times slower than HDDs, the game loads faster when it starts since the data is accessed faster. There's no actual difference in performance, just convenience and the initial CD check time.

since you own a copy of the game, i dont think it will be illegal to download a torrent of the game.  you might have difficulty finding just disk 1 though and will probably find the full dvd game.  should still work though with your cd key.

Mini image = ...mini image. It reads like a full iso (what you need to install), but is empty. It's only good for fooling the exe.

You are incorrect. Discussions of downloading illegal copies of BF2 violate the rules of this forum.
