Or profit, as Dragonclaw pointed out.

Everyone who has pirated software should fall over and writhe in pain for endless days..and then live, so they can be tortured by their memories.

Seriously, its just pathetic petty stealing, and the sign of an immature person.

Yeah I'd be fine with that. Either do it on an old Windows 98 laptop or just use the computer for playing games for a few months.

Don't bother.  The free offer expired about 2 hours ago.  You'll still get the email and it will still ask you to fill out the survey, but the first part, where it asks for your mailing address, is now gone.

As for profits, I think it might be a NFS version.

This is the hot ticket to go though for those of us software developer types: http://www.microsoft.com/heroeshappenhe … fault.mspx
Free Windows Server 2008, SQL Server 2008, and Visual Studio 2008.  USA only.  First stop, Los Angeles in February.

The only immature person here is you. Stop whining about stuff that other people do that harms no one. Dumbass.

I was thinking that.  Because I did this around noon, and it was still valid.  Then someone posted about how they didn't say anything about free software.  Lucky I was quick.

My dad went to one of those types of conferences and picked up Office 2007, a shirt, and a bag, which was pretty sweet.  The shirt and bag were useless, however.

Edit v2: I should tone down the name calling.

Edit: As I should explain, how can be so stupid as to think it isn't hurting anyone. You didn't write the software, idiot.

You are a fucking moron.
Come on now, he is right in that it doesn't harm anyone. I still think there are a HUGE number of legit purchasers (think of all the businesses etc, they wouldn't want to risk getting caught for piracy would they?) to make any of piracy's "impact" very small.

Oh, so because other other people buy the software, you don't have to too. This is selfish reasoning, and thus immature. Are you working for or against me?

The only one that hurts is Mr.Gates has a slightly less full bank account. The coders aren't paid on how many copies they sell.

Neither? I bought Vista legit mind you. I may or may not have gotten MS Office 2007 legit. Why? Because even the "Student" edition is a fucking ripoff. Especially when it only lets you install on... one computer? No thanks MS, I'll install it on as many computers as I want.

I have Office 97 and it lets me install on as many computers as I want. This is professional edition, so it makes little sense. If people didn't steal software, they wouldn't be so strict.

I don't think people really cared about pirated software back then....

Maybe people wouldn't steal if they weren't so strict? That's Hurricane's line of thought as i see it.

Not paying 300$ for software that you can only install on one PC isnt selfish. Your reasoning is flawed. Yet again, it harms no one. Businesses are losing pennies compared to what they make from people who buy the software. Just because I would never spend 500$ on say, photoshop doesnt make me selfish. The people who design the software arent making any money off the sales anyway so there isnt anything selfish about it. People who did absolutely nothing to design the product are making the money off CD sales, movie sales, and software sales. Whos selfish here?

Copy protection leads people who would otherwise buy the software to piracy. The recent bioshock scandal, the people who were pirating the game had a working game, the people who bought it did not. People dont want to pay for something that they can only install once or twice on the same PC. Look at Gears of War, it was released with more problems than the entire history of BF2 doubled and thrown into one package. The people who fixed the crashing issues were the cracker teams. Microsoft did nothing. Again, the people who bought it were ripped off, the people who downloaded it had a working game.
