Shouldnt you be having a pagan christmas, as that is the true religious origin in Ireland.CameronPoe wrote:

Actually the true religion of modern Ireland is Catholicism, in case you hadn't noticed. But I'll make a toast to Lúgh, Cúchulainn and the Tuatha De Danann if it makes you happy.Vilham wrote:

This does make it easier. And I agree with you Cameron. We are so quick to say "I didn't want to offend you so we just dropped if out" is the PC people that think they are speaking for the other religions, not that they asked any of them, they just thought they knew what was best for everyone. How nice, pussbuckets.
I also know stores like Wal-Mart and Target as well as any other big chain out there have dropped Christ as to not lose customers, but in doing so offending Christians. But they still sell Christmas related products. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a big factor in the PC peoples ideas.
To other religions, may you have a great holiday. To Christians, Merry Christmas.

Does anyone else think Kwanza is absolutely ridiculous. Than again, Christmas doesn't exactly make sense either. But Kwanza is a holiday that admits it doesn't mean anything and is just there, because it is.
you are stoooooooopyd. Ive got no problems with trees.LividBovine wrote:

Exactly. I'm an atheist and it doesn't bother me in the slightest - I like Christmas.GunSlinger OIF II wrote:

there is a good number of American military that are atheist.
I remember some quote I saw in Call of Duty 2
"There are no atheists in Foxholes"
"There are no atheists in Foxholes"
thats bullshit. Ive never felt so much farther from any kind of master creator as I did in Iraq. My deployment cemented my lack of faith.Mekstizzle wrote:

The meaning of a holiday really depends on the individual. For me, Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Christ. Along with that comes a Christmas concert, Christmas tree, lights on the house, seeing family, eating good food, and opening some gifts from loved ones. Pagans celebrated it differently, yay.IG-Calibre wrote:

yeah.. I guess the light has to come into the world at the darkest part!
I'm glad political correctness is finally starting to take a back seat to common sense.
We have a nativity scene here in the College foyer in D.I.T. and I do believe I saw the Angelus on the news at six o'clock last night too!CameronPoe wrote:

Political correctness is a lot of shit, it's like something out of a Kafka book ...trying to create legislation for situations that just require common sense.
Uhhhhh.... no? Catholic tradition I thought for many centuries.Vilham wrote:

The paradox is only a conflict between reality and your feeling what reality ought to be.

No we, the Celts, were originally polytheists, which many would regard as Paganism.Spark wrote:

I'd actually prefer to have loads of cool Celtic mythological creatures all over the place instead of Jesus and his cronies, at least it would look cooler.

aye, but from the 5th centurary it's fair to say that Ireland willingly Christianised and embraced Catholicism and remained that way more or less for the next 12 century's - sure we will not talk about those that took soup
