I see your phallic symbol and raise you the Enviromission solar tower at 3,280 feet.

Small point: Dubai isn't a country. The United Arab Emirates, on the other hand, is.

PS Nobody beats Chicago for modern architecture. Best goddamn city in America.

Damn those high towers look unstable. I for one don't see the point in building them, why not give a lot of people a nice house instead?

Anyone else think the Citadel in HL2 was the coolest looking skyscraper ever designed? Only the interior needs abit of work I suppose. I hated blowing it up.

I loved the Combine architecture.

and lmfao @ stkhoplite

Also the 3D renderings of the Spire make it look like a giant tampon

The UAE is a very rich small country.

I see a big problem.  Once Al-Q gets pissed that other Muslims are not living in caves and shitting in holes like they are, they might start launching attacks.  That would scare away western business and tourists.  I hope they have a plan for this.
I think they've got a neat little security force there, not sure though. I'd like to visit Dubai some day .

Haven't been to Seattle but I can't see how it could be better. Magnificent mile, Tribune Tower, Wrigley Field, Soldier Field, Grant Park, Buckingham Fountain, Art Institute, LaSalle Street, Chicago Board of Trade, Wrigley Building, John Hancock Building, Sears Tower, Navy Pier, Lake Michigan, Marina City Towers, House of Blues, blues music, beaches, Field Museum, Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium, Whitesox, Chicago Bulls, Picasso Sculpture... it has it all.

Bauhaus architecture FTW. I'm upset that my favorite museum (Museum of Science and Industry, only remaining structure from the 1893 World Columbian Exposition---read The Devil in the White City, it's a top shelf book about said event) got left of the list though. In fact, I'm going there on Friday. It's interesting to see it in winter time despite the low temperatures because the Lake usually freezes for about 20-30 feet from shore and gives an interesting look out to the horizon.

On topic, Arabs.

One problem on a documentary I saw.  Everything is damn near vacant.  Like the palm island.  They sold the properties, but it is like a ghost town.  I hope it works for them.
I think their city planning is a little fucked up

I mean, just look at some of the pics of Dubai.  They basically picked a place of land and started building.  It looks like a bunch of rich people decided to get together and make a city one day.  It just doesnt look like itd be a nice place to live.
