Freaking wierd....
It is not unusual for one twin to absorb the other.  It's not common, but it does happen.  seems to be more prevalent in countries with poor nutrition, as only one twin typically survives.

Stephen King did a novel about this " The Dark Half ".

Basically the theory is that one baby eats the other in the womb, but because of an undeveloped digestive system they never get processed and sometimes continue to develop tissue and hair decades after dying because they are fused to the host body.

Google the following:

Vanishing Twin

Chimerism

Parasitic Twins

cyclopia

sirenomelia

Remember some very important points:

all creatures of earth share the same DNA- what separates the species is which part of that DNA is activated during pregnancy

Also- all creatures' DNA still contains ancient chains of acids that are now dormant, but in their heyday, were responsible for evolution or extiction of that species.

All creatures start out as a fish and then grow into whatever species they are supposed to be.

Once you realize these things, you can see just how delicate DNA structuring is, and how easy it is for things to go horribly wrong.
